If you haven’t played a PGA contest on FantasyDraft yet, I’ll fill you in. You can roster 7 golfers. Only the top 6 scores are added to your overall score, thus the lowest score of the 7 golfers in your lineup is dropped and does not count against you at all. It doesn’t matter if it was your most expensive golfer that bit the dust and missed the cut (Spieth earlier this year), or if it was a minimum salary punt play that performed like minimum price players typically do. The salaries for PGA on FantasyDraft are also rather tight so you usually must have a relatively cheap or min. priced player to help roster one or two “favorites to win”.
With that said, the purpose of this weekly PGA article is to enlighten you to the best PGA Punt Plays for the week. The overall goal here is to find the cheap golfer that can make the cut and aide your roster in case one of your “Top 6” falter or miss the cut altogether. If you roster one of these suggested players and they are the lowest score on your lineup, it usually means your “Top 6” performed adequately.
Last Week Recap:
Kevin Kisner – $13,000 FDraft | $7,200 DK | $8,500 FD – Finished +1 in 39th
Kevin Na – $12,600 FDraft | $7,200 DK | $8,600 FD – Finished E in 31st
Charl Schwartzel – $12,600 FDraft | $7,200 DK | $8,200 FD – Finished E in 31st
Emiliano Grillo – $12,600 FDraft | $7,100 DK | $8,200 FD – Finished +8 in 66th after going +8 Sunday
(WD) Adam Hadwin – $12,100 FDraft | $6,900 DK | $8,400 FD
2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club
The course will be set up as a Par 70 around 7,350 yards with Bentgrass greens. Per usual, I am avoiding course history as it changes in this event year to year.
Shane Lowry – $12,000 FDraft | $7,100 DK | $8,100 FD
Lowry comes in at 32nd in total strokes gained. He has no stats that pop out as worrysome. However, I can say his short game isn’t as good as the rest of his form. He has 4 stats clocking in the top 33.
Adam Hadwin – $11,800 FDraft | $7,100 DK | $8,400 FD
Haddy was written up last week right before he bailed on us due to his hip. I don’t think he is going to miss this major for anything, but I also don’t think it is bad enough to negatively effect his performance. He comes in at 28th in total strokes gained. Solid stats all around with his best being 20th in both SG: SG and SG: P.
Kevin Na – $12,000 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $8,600 FD
Na makes it to the list for the 2nd straight week. He didn’t screw us last week in a no cut event as he finished E. This week he comes in at SIXTH overall in total strokes gained. His only downside is his OTT which is near the bottom of the field. If you can forgive that, he is a lock. He is 8th in SG: SG, 7th in SG: P, and 4th in SG: APP.
Anirban Lahiri – $11,700 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,700 FD
Lahiri is 29th in total strokes gained. He is the most consistent Punt Play as he is the only one without a single stat outside of the top 57. He has 4 stats inside the top 33 with his best being 22nd in SG: OTT.
Ryan Armour – $11,300 FDraft | $6,300 DK | $7,000 FD
Armour is 25th overall in total strokes gained. He is all over the place in recent form. Amazing with 4th in SG: SG and 3rd in SG: ARG. Then the opposite of amazing with an 87th in both SG: OTT and SG: BS. Getting to the green is the burden, afterwards he is golden.
Honorable Mention: Jim Furyk – $11,300/$6,600/$7,400
I HAD to make a 6th Punt Play for this week. Furyk owns this event and was good the last time he played on this course way back when. He is 32nd in total strokes gained. He has 3 stats in top 16 with a 6th in SG: APP. In regard to “showing up” to this big stage, he made the cut 4 straight years (missed last year) with a 5th place finish in 2014 and a 2nd place finish in 2013.
Stat Key
SG – Strokes Gained

SG: T2G – Tee to Green
SG: BS – Ball Striking
