Race Preview/Lineup Construction

The Cup Series will be heading to the Charlotte Roval for the final race of the round of 12. Eight drivers will advance, and four will be eliminated losing their chances of battling for a championship. Weather shouldn’t be issue with mostly sunny skies in the forecast. This race is 109 laps which means there are only 76.3 dominator points available. Place differential will be the key to having a successful day for DFS. For lineup construction, we should probably target 1-2 dominators with mostly place differential plays. The road courses from this season are good for data to see which drivers we should expect to perform well here. With all of that out of the way, here are some of the drivers I’ll be targeting on Sunday.

AJ Allmendinger (DK $11,200 FD $12,000)

I think all of you guys know to place Chase Elliott, so I don’t have to explain that one. Allmendinger is back in the #16 car for the first time since his win at the Indianapolis Road Course. He has back to back wins at the Charlotte Roval in the Xfinity Series and is great at these tracks. He’s expensive because he offers a lot of place differential starting 33rd. A finish around 10th would put him at 5x value and anything higher will probably make him optimal. I would lock him in cash games, but he does make for an interesting fade in GPPs with the expensive price and high ownership he’ll have.

Kyle Larson (DK $10,300 FD $14,000)

Larson’s finishes on the road courses this season are 30th, 2nd, 1st, 16th, 1st, and 3rd. His two bad results were both from late-race incidents where he was running near the front. It’s crazy saying this, but I think he might get overlooked this weekend. Most people will start with AJ and Chase but won’t have the money to afford Larson. We’ve seen how dominant he’s been this season and at the road courses. I like him a lot this weekend and will definitely be overweight compared to the field.

Ross Chastain (DK $9,300 FD 9,500)

Chastain has one top 5, three top 10’s and an average finish of 15.8 over the six road course races. He’s a little more expensive than some of the other drivers that offer place differential which might make him lower owned. With the lack of value options, I don’t think you’ll be able to play him in cash, but I like him a lot for GPPs. A top 5 finish would score him over 60 fantasy points on DraftKings and would crush his value.

Chase Briscoe (DK $7,600 FD $9,200)

Briscoe had a lot of success at the road courses in Xfinity and continues to run well at these tracks in the Cup Series. He has three top 10’s and almost won at Indy but got parked by NASCAR at the end. I expect him to be very popular on DraftKings because he’s way too cheap at only $7,600. I think FanDuel priced him right, but he’s still a solid option on both sites. Briscoe offers plenty of place differential starting 22nd and has top 5 upside.

Ryan Preece (DK $6,000 FD $5,500)

There aren’t a ton of value plays projecting out well, but Preece looks like one of the safer options we can target. Over his two starts at the Charlotte Roval, he has finishes of 21st and 14th. He offers a lot of place differential starting 31st which makes him a very safe play for cash games. It does make sense to be underweight on him in tournaments because I expect his ownership to be very high with the lack of value options on this slate.

Cole Custer (DK $5,700 FD $7,100)

I’m not saying to lock Custer into your lineups, but this is a really cheap price for an SHR car. He finished 9th here last season and has four top 20’s over the six road course races this season. With the place differential he offers, all you’ll need from him is a top 20 to hit 5x value. Whenever I like Custer as a play, he always busts, so keep that in mind when building your NASCAR DFS lineups.
