Ricky’s StableDuel Strategy – Tampa Bay Derby Day 3/12/22

Happy Tampa Bay Derby Day Karma Nation! We are back for another day of racing contests on StableDuel! Today we will be ALL OVER Tampa Bay Downs for their loaded card. StableDuel has TWO awesome contests for Tampa Bay loaded into the game. They have a FREE contest that you can win real cold, hard CASH. It costs LITERALLY nothing to throw together a stable and hope for a top 10 finish. This is perfect for anyone that has been seeing our content, but hasn’t jumped in yet! If free doesn’t do it for you, they also have put in a $75 contest with a $20,000 prize pool. The winner will walk away with $5,000 and the top 40 spots will at least double their entry fee. There is NO BETTER TIME than NOW to SIGN UP!

If you’re new to StableDuel, the idea is simple. Select 10 horses to build your “stable” while staying within the salary cap of $50,000. Horses are assigned prices based on their morning line odds, so you cannot use all favorites in your stable. StableDuel awards points for horses that come 1st – 5th and subtracts horses that finish outside of the top 5. This is why it is crucial to make sure you’re reading our content to narrow in on value horses that we think can get points.

High Price Favorites

#8 Commandperformance $12,000 – Race 5
I’m going head first into a maiden race with a horse that’s $12,000. Normally I’d advocate against it, but Commandperformance was initially pointed to the Kentucky Derby before needing to take some time off. Coming back in this weak maiden field, I truly expect this horse to win by open lengths. From a betting standpoint, this horse will be the most “singled” horse in horizontal wagering on the day. No other horse in this field has a triple digit speed figure. Assuming he comes into this race ready to work, I expect to find him on the front end of a track that may be the most speed biased tracks in all of North America. If you can find enough softer priced horses to build your stable around Commandperformance, you absolutely need to include this horse in your stable.

Mid Price Plays

#3 Dolce Zel $6,000 – Race 9
Prior to the morning line odds being posted, I expected Dolce Zel to be the favorite in the Grade 3 Florida Oaks. You have Chad Brown on Turf with Irad Ortiz. Chad Brown is somewhere around 40% with imports debuting in the US. So when the morning lines were posted, I saw this as a value play. This horse will be bet down, which means getting in at the listed 5/1 odds offers value in StableDuel. Now, I’ll be the first to admit that this is a little bit of a question mark as she hasn’t ever went this distance, but she is training well and is getting Lasix for the first time. She’s a risky play, but I like the value she offers versus her morning line odds.

Value Plays

#8 Scalding $750 – Race 8
I think Race 8 in general offers extreme value no matter which way you go. I am not interested in the 1st or 2nd choices on the morning line, which just opens up the playbook in this race. I’m not sure if Scalding will win this race, but I do love the chances. I was looking at pace projections and think this horse will be the speed of the speed. I am not tossing #1 Wolfie’s Dynaghost, but I think that horse is just more so a turf horse, which is why I think Scalding will get out to the lead. In his last 2 races, he won both of them by a combined 7+ lengths. He did so on a sloppy track and a fast track, which bodes well for us with the questionable weather. If this horse gets his way up front, he should be able to carry us to at least a top 5 finish, which is what we ask of our cheap horses on StableDuel!
