We are two weeks removed from the Kentucky Derby and onto the second jewel of the triple crown, THE PREAKNESS! We already know we won’t have a triple crown winner as Rich Strike wussed elected to focus on a different race. That’s okay, because we drew an excellent group of 9 horses, highlighted by the second place finisher, Epicenter. We also see Secret Oath, winner of the Oaks for the ladies, as well as some fresh faces. That race is shaping up to be a fun one, but we’ll have to get through a fully loaded stakes day at Pimlico before we see the main event in Race 13. To top off the racing, StableDuel has a $15,000 contest as well as a COMPLETELY FREE contest to go along with racing at Pimlico today. There is NO BETTER TIME than NOW to SIGN UP!
If you’re new to StableDuel, the idea is simple. Select 10 horses to build your stable while staying within the salary cap of $50,000. Horses are assigned prices based on their morning line odds, so you cannot use all favorites in your stable. StableDuel awards points for horses that come 1st – 5th and subtracts horses that finish outside of the top 5. This is why it is crucial to make sure you’re reading our content to narrow in on value horses that we think can get points.

High Price Favorites
#4 Technical Analysis $9,600 – Race 5 Technical Analysis is one of my favorite plays on the slate. She has Grade 2 and 3 winning experience and Chad Brown freshened her up last month after a lengthy layoff, grabbing a very close second. Technical Analysis is the only speed entered in this race and Jose Ortiz will need to control this horse from start to finish.
Mid Price Plays
#4 Secret Oath $6,500 – Race 13 I’ve mulled back and forth over Secret Oath and Early Voting as my top pick in The Preakness. Either Early Voting will have his way on the front end, or Epicenter will press and hopefully wear each other down, creating the perfect set up for Secret Oath to roll by both. I had many futures on this filly beating the boys in the Derby and after she dominated in the Oaks 2 weeks ago, I think her run style fits nicely for a chance. I like the discount on her as a solid win contender and a likely top 3 finisher. Let’s repeat what Rachel Alexandra did and become only the 2nd filly to win the Oaks and Preakness.
Value Plays
#3 Gentleman Joe $1,000 – Race 2 I don’t know if Gentleman Joe can win race 2, but his trainer opted for this dirt race, rather than a turf race on Friday at the same distance. There looks to be some pace, but Gentleman Joe loves this distance and should be on the lead coming from the 3 hole. There are a couple others in this race that made the same move, but I put my stock behind the local horse that shouldn’t be 10/1 when the race goes off.
