Ricky’s StableDuel Strategy – 10/13/20

Morning folks! StableDuel offers just one contest at Parx for this beautiful Tuesday morning. As I handicapped the day, I feel that this is a pretty good betting card and it turned out to be a tricky day to get my stable to stay under the salary cap. I start off my builds with the obvious value horse(s), and my “can’t miss” favorites. After that, I try to fill in the blanks. Yesterday’s core was pretty good bringing in a 162. Unfortunately, my fill-ins landed me just outside the top 10. Hopefully, you had better luck. Let’s dive into today’s Parx card.

If you need a refresher on scoring, please refer back to our debut article that goes a little more in-depth, located here.

High Price Favorites

King Koa $8,500 – Race 9
Easily my favorite horse on the card today. While the horse is $8,500, he’s not the most expensive in this race, and is simply an error on the morning-line oddsmaker, in my opinion. This horse had a really strong showing last time out after a 6-month layoff. Now, he comes to Parx to face similar. I think this horse could blow the competition out. This is a must use.

Mid Price Plays

Yondering $7,000 – Race 10
In a wide-open race, I actually like a couple of horses in this race. I don’t foresee a huge blowout, so if you need some mid-price plays, having multiple horses from this race makes sense. Yondering is dropping in class and going back to a further distance that he likes. If you have checked out my core, you will also see another horse that I think fits this race pretty well, too.

Value Plays

Armament $1000 – Race 9
This horse wasn’t exactly on my radar until after this article was half-written and some scratches started to pop up. Being a 5 horse race, you are guaranteed base points for each horse in this race. I am hoping that this horse doesn’t mind the extra 70 yards. For a ‘throw-away’ value horse, I’m hoping Armament will outrun the odds and stay within 10 Furlongs of the winner to avoid negative points.
