Caleb’s StableDuel Strategy 9/30/2020 – Parx

Check out our StableDuel Core Plays for today’s track for FREE by clicking HERE!

We have some affordable midweek action today with 2 contests to choose from on StableDuel- Parx and Emerald Downs. Parx seems to be the preferred track among our players, so that’s where I’ve targeted my core plays for today. Keep in mind, these are posted before scratches go up, so you’ll want to keep an eye on the tote board to make sure all of the horses selected are running. Also, watch out for the weather. They aren’t currently calling for any rain today. If that changes, you’ll definitely want to update your selections for the turf races!

If you need a refresher on scoring, please refer back to our debut article that goes a little more in-depth, located here.

High Price Favorites

Sunny Dale $9,400 – Race 8
Sunny Dale is by far the most accomplished horse in this race. Her 3 wins at Oaklawn are all good enough to beat this field handily today. She is taking advantage of some peculiar conditions this race which allow for any horse who is a PA bred that has not won a PA bred restricted race. Normally, those are targeted for horses who are moving up the state-bred ranks. Sharp placement by Hollendorfer lands her in this spot despite beating open company 3 times already. She should be an easy winner here.

Happyascanb $8,500 – Race 3
Happyascanb is the second choice this race, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he went off nearly equal with the favorite. His last 3 races are faster than any other horse in this field has run before, and simply repeating those efforts makes him nearly a lock to run no worse than 2nd.

Mid Price Plays

Trusting Friend $6,000 – Race 1
In a race that feels pretty wide open, I would hesitate to spend significant budget in this spot. There are probably no less than 5 horses with legitimate chances to win. Trusting Friend appears to be the most consistent performer of this bunch. He’s better going 6 furlongs compared to the 5.5 furlongs he ran last time. With an extra half furlong, he would have almost certainly placed in the money that race. The pace setup here is somewhat murky. I’m hoping there is a contested battle for the lead, and Trusting Friend is a fairly safe bet to hit the board, and might just win.

Value Plays

Offlee Optimistic $500 – Race 7
On paper, it feels like there is a lot of speed signed up for this 5 furlong turf dash. This sets up Offlee Optimistic with a perfect stalking trip from the outside post. While others here have run slightly faster, Offlee Optimistic’s two turf races in September of last year would make her a strong contender. Those efforts both came against better horses than she faces today. Spending only $500 for a horse who has hit the board in 4 of 5 turf sprints at Parx and gets a contested pace to run after today is a great value play.

Proud and Furious $1,000 – Race 6
There are some truly dreadful horses in this non-winners of 3 lifetime races, so I’m going with a younger horse who is more lightly raced in Proud and Furious. This 4-year-old ran a huge race two races ago when destroying lesser company. It is very likely that effort set him back a little when returning on just 2 weeks of rest against better horses. He’s now been given a month to recover. While he may be somewhat at the mercy of needing an honest pace up front, he should nevertheless be closing strongly late at a bargain price.
