Let’s dive into some value plays for today’s giant 13 game NHL slate.
Offense:
- Tanner Pearson VAN ($4900-FD, $3700-DK) Closer to a mid-level price on FD, but too cheap on DK for a 2nd-liner who also sees second-unit power play time. His goal on 11 shots in 16 minutes helped keep Vancouver close in a one goal loss to Edmonton on Wednesday.
- Joonas Donskoi COL ($3600-FD, $2900-DK) Just elevated to the Avs’ 2nd line, Donskoi also logs 2nd-unit power play time. Hoping he can continue his hot start from Thursday when his 2 goals paced Colorado to a win over Calgary. It won’t take much to make value with his tiny price tag.
- Victor Olofsson BUF ($4200-FD, $4500-DK) Plays on the Sabre’s top line centered by Jack Eichel and is solid on the top power play line. Had an assist and two shots in 17 minutes of ice time in Buffalo’s opener against Pittsburgh. He gets to face a middle of the pack Devils defense that squandered a four-goal lead last night.
Defense:
- Darnell Nurse EDM ($4500-FD, $4700-DK) I watched Nurse really elevate his game last season, tallying over 40 points. He logged almost 27 minutes on Wednesday, and was very active with three blocks, an assist and a +2 rating while also directing the 2nd power play unit. Great home match up with the King’s 27th ranked defense tonight.
- Justin Schultz PIT ($4300-FD, $3700-DK) The Pen’s home opener against Buffalo was lackluster, but Schultz racked up 6 shots and a block in 20 mins. of ice time. He directs the top power play so look for him to be an assist monster all season, and grab at least one tonight at home vs. Columbus.
Goaltender:
- Mike Smith EDM ($7600-FD, $7900-DK) I won’t be on Smith that often but he offers good value in this spot tonight. Even in an underwhelming year for the Flames, Smith only yielded three goals in two games to Los Angeles last season. This match-up also favors Smith due to Jonathan Quick’s .869 SV% and 3.45 GAA versus the Oilers last season.
