Trevis’ Punt Plays – The Sony Open

It’s baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccccccccccccckkkkkkkk!!!!!!!! For those of you new to the plethora of content DFSKarma.com puts out on a daily/weekly basis, this is my weekly PGA article that focuses on the cheapos no one else dare write about. It had massive success last year with my getting sub $7K (DK) golfers finishing top 10 at less than 1% ownership on an almost weekly basis. Well, I’m bringing it back this year with the same concept. My cap this year is $7300 in DraftKings pricing (but you can still play them on FanDuel, FantasyDraft, or Yahoo). I focus on recent form and course history heavily to spit out my favorite 5 golfers from within that range.

Without further ado, here are my favorite golfers for:

2019 Sony Open

The Sony Open is played in Honolulu, Hawaii at the Waialae Country Club. It is a Par 70 that reaches 7044 yards and has Bermuda greens.

Stewart Cink – $7300 DK | $9200 FD | $12600 FDraft | $33 Yahoo

Mr. MakesTheCut comes in with great course history. He hasn’t missed the cut at this event in the last 5 years. His best finish in that time span is 20th, but still, consistency is key. On top of that course history, Cink actually ranks THIRD overall in my model in total strokes gained. He has 3 stats in the top 11 (T2G, BS, APP) and his worst stat is 56th overall in SG: OTT.

Jamie Lovemark – $7300 DK | $9100 FD | $13100 FDraft | $27 Yahoo

In 4 appearances in the last 5 years, J-Love has missed the cut twice. However, in those other two appearances, he finished 7th (2016) and 4th (2017). So top 10 or bust. Lovemark is also high up in my models at 6th overall in total strokes gained. He actually ranks 3rd overall in SG: P and 2nd overall in SG: SG. AKA he owns Bermuda greens. His BS/OTT/APP is worrisome though as they are between 59-68th overall.

James Hahn – $7300 DK | $8000 FD |$13100 FDraft | $26 Yahoo

Hahn was the runner up at this event last year. More good news is that he hasn’t missed the cut here either in the last 5 years. Hahn clocks in at 11th overall in total strokes gained. He is absolutely dreadful with SG: ARG ranking 85th overall, but he has 4 stats inside the top 18 (T2G, BS, OTT, APP).

Ollie Schniederjans – $6900 DK | $8100 FD | $12500 FDraft | $28 Yahoo

Ollie has only competed here recently (in the last 2 years). He made the cut both times, and even managed to finish 7th here last year. Schniedy also has one worrisome stat, being 82nd overall in SG: OTT. However, EVERY other stat is 36th or higher, 3 of them in top 23.

Ben Martin – $7000 DK | $7600 FD | $11800 FDraft | $20 Yahoo

Benny Mart was written up a few times last year in the piece. He never performed well until the week AFTER I wrote about him. Hoping that changes this year as he also tied for 7th here last years with ZERO missed cuts in last 5 tries. Martin has the worst recent form of my 5 this week coming in at just 44th overall in total strokes gained. He is mainly a course history play as all of his stats hover between 34-84th overall. The worst being SG: ARG.

BONUS: Monkey Knife Fight Play

If you are late to the party, Karma Nation has already won thousands and thousands of dollars in the last few weeks playing prop games on MonkeyKnifeFight.online. Being a Par 70, Bryson only needs to go -1 in Day one to hit the under. JT, one of the best golfers, if not THE best golfer, in the world should easily net 5 birdies to hit his over as well. Play according to your bankroll, but I’m going $100 to win $217.
