Trevis’ PGA Punt Plays – 2019 Honda Classic

Bet on MyBookie

For those of you new to the plethora of content DFSKarma.com puts out on a daily/weekly basis, this is my weekly PGA article that focuses on the cheapos no one else dare write about. It had massive success last year with my getting sub $7K (DK) golfers finishing top 10 at less than 1% ownership on an almost weekly basis. Well, I’m bringing it back this year with the same concept. My cap this year is $7300 in DraftKings pricing (but you can still play them on FanDuel, FantasyDraft, or Yahoo). I focus on recent form and course history heavily to spit out my favorite 5 golfers from within that range.

(How about that Kiradech Punt Play last week! $6700 DK salary, less than 5% owned, finished THIRD!!!)

2019 Honda Classic

The Honda Classic is played at the PGA National Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. It plays as a Par 70 at just over 7100 yards with Bermuda greens.

Brendan Steele – $7000 DK | $9300 FD

Man of Steele did not compete in this event last year. The 4 years prior he never missed the cut and actually had three straight top 14 finishes. Steele comes in ranked 8th overall in my model. His worst stat is 46th in SG: APP and the rest are in the top 36, with his best being 7th overall in SG: ARG. I’m on the fence if I like him or Furyk the most this week.

Stewart Cink – $6800 DK | $9100 FD

Cink is one of the most recurring names in my weekly PGA piece as the man makes cuts. Including here. He hasn’t missed at this event in the last 5 years. However, 26th in 2016 was his most prolific finish. To pair nicely with his tournament history, Mr. MakesTheCut is 18th overall in total strokes gained. He isn’t the sharpest on Bermuda greens with a 75th rank, but he is consistent enough to warrant $6800 price for an auto cut make.

Rory Sabbatini – $7000 DK | $8000 FD

If you followed my article last year, you DEFINITELY remember this guys name. I wrote him up maybe 7 straight weeks because he never missed the cut and his salary never grew out of my Punt range. I actually wrote him up as a Punt in this event last year and he paid off finishing 17th. He did however get cut the two years before that. Rory is the worst Punt in regard to recent Bermuda putting. That being said, he as three stats that rank in the top 8 overall (T2G, BS, ARG). If he can clean up his putting on these greens, he definitely makes the cut.

Brian Harman – $7300 DK | $8400 FD

Harman makes another appearance in my piece already this year has he is 4/5 on making the cut at this event with his best being 11th in 2015. Harman clocks in at 17th overall in total strokes gained. He has 3 stats in the top 9 (SG, ARG, P), so it’s easy to say he is the best Punt this week on Bermuda greens. He is awful with his APP as he ranks 125th, however.

Jim Furyk – $7000 DK | $9200 FD

Over the last half decade, Old Man Jim has only competed here last year, where he finished in 46th place. Even though his one recent appearance was less than stellar, Furyk is 3rd overall in my model in total strokes gained. He has 4 stats in the top 8 (T2G, BS, SG, APP) and his ARG (16th) and P (20) aren’t too shabby either. I see him definitely making the cut this week.

Honorable Mention: Martin Kaymer – $7100 DK  | $8800 FD

Kaymer withdrew here last here, finished 4th the year prior, didn’t’ compete before that, finished 44th before that, and then was cut back in 2014. This man is all over the place and is going to finish top 15 or miss cut this week. I personally have been burned by Kaymer enough to black list him from my DFS lines for life, but he does rank 20th overall in my model. Personal bias aside, I think he could have a great finish, just not on my roster lol.
