PGA Top DFS Plays: FedEx St. Jude Championship

After a two-week break, I’m back with my PGA Top DFS Plays.

Vacation and a vacation lull kept me away. But now it’s the home stretch of the PGA Tour season.

The FedEx Cup playoffs begin with the St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tenn., at TPC Southwind (par 70, 7,273 yards).

TPC Southwind features plenty of water hazards and Bermudagrass rough, making accuracy an importance.

This is a no-cut event and the Top 50 of this week’s 70 golfer field advances to next week’s BMW Championship.

Onto this week’s Top DFS Plays for the St. Jude Championship!

10K & Above

Scottie Scheffler ($12,400)

Scheffler comes into the playoffs after winning the gold medal at the Olympics. But that is something he’s done all season – win!

The Olympic gold marked his 7th victory of the season, and he’s the odds-on favorite for the St. Jude with his improved putting.

Scheffler ranked 145th last season before improving to 90th in 2024. His improved putting is a nice addition to his elite approach.

All of the 10K golfers are solid play this week, but Colin Morikawa ($10,000) is my second favorite.

9K & Above

Russell Henley ($9,000)

Henley has played well in his last four events.

He has two Top 7 or better finishes in the U.S. Open and The Open Championship.

Now he comes to a course that matches his strengths – accuracy, strong approach play and putting.

Henley finished 6th in last year’s event.

8K & Above

Aaron Rai ($8,200)

I’m going with the hot hand with Rai.

Rai had been outstanding the past two months and finally earned his first PGA win at the Wyndham Championship last Sunday.

Rai has placed 19th or better in six of his last seven events since the end of May. His worst finish was a 75th at The Open Championship.

TPC Southwind fits his game perfectly for a possible back-to-back wins.

Rai is Top 10 in accuracy off the tee and SG: Approach, while his bogey avoidance and par-4 scoring are also Top 10 stats on the PGA Tour.

7K & Above

Davis Thompson ($7,400)

And with my 7K golfer, I’m going with the hot hand, again.

Thompson, just Rai, has played well since the RCB Canadian Open at the end of May.

He has made the cut in 7th straight events, including his first PGA Tour win at the John Deere Classic.

He doesn’t shine in any statistical categories I used this week in my spreadsheet, but his consistency all through his bag made him one of my Top DFS Plays this week.

Punt Plays

The 6K and below will break lineups this week thanks to the guarantee four rounds of golf. Eric Cole ($6,700), Victor Perez ($6,400) and Seamus Power ($6,100) are my top plays.
