PGA Top DFS Plays: 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities

My Top DFS Plays were almost a big hit at the Open Championship.

But some poor play on Sunday at Royal Troon doomed a big payday.

Scottie Scheffler was making ugly double bogeys, Collin Morikawa and Si Woo Kim couldn’t get anything going, and Davis Thompson was a dud in the final round. Russell Henley was a bright spot, along with Sungjae Im, who filled out my only 6-for-6 lineup.

But we have another week before the Olympics as the PGA Tour pros head to TPC Twin Cities (par 71, 7,431 yards) in Blaine, Minn., for the 3M Open.

And this event can have some unexpected winners with water coming into play on 15 holes.

Four of last five winners have had odds +8000 or greater.

Lee Hodges is the defending champion and was +8000 to win last year.

Onto my Top DFS Plays for the 3M Open:

10K & Above

Sam Burns ($10,000)

Burns may be the second highest rostered golfer behind Tony Finau ($10,500), but I believe it is for good reason.

Finau’s accuracy woes may be compounded at TPC Twin Cities’ water hazards.

Sahith Theegala ($10,300) has a bad course history at the 3M Open, missing the cut all three times he’s played.

I’ll take Burns despite his approach play woes.

9K & Above

Akshay Bhatia ($9,800)

I think this week is the perfect time to skip the 10K all together and start in the 9K range.

Bhatia takes my nod in this group even though there are several good options.

His accuracy off the tee, approach and putting are all elite.

I would rather have a high-rostered Bhatia on my roster and miss the cut than a 10K golfer missing the cut this week.

Other top 9K golfers for me are Luke Clanton ($9,300) and Keith Mitchell ($9,400).

8K & Above

Maverick McNealy ($8,300)

I know I haven’t gotten McNealy right this season, but I’m going back to the well again.

McNealy has had a stellar year despite his recent woes.

But you can’t ignore his above average tee to green play, putting and accuracy off the tee. It comes down if his approach game is dialed in.

7K & Above

Ben Silverman ($7,200)

Silverman has been playing some stellar golf in his last four tournaments.

Despite his 75 in the second round at the Barracuda Championship last week, he has recorded 69 or better in 12 out of his last 16 rounds.

Silverman doesn’t wow you with elite stats but his consistent across the board numbers is led by his putter. He is 15th putter on Tour this season which helps make him one of my Top DFS Plays for me this week.

Punt Plays

As one of the weaker tournaments of the season, the 6K range is a valley of misfit golfers. Carson Young ($6,900) and Jacob Bridgeman ($6,700) are two bright spots for me this week.
