Last Week Punt Plays Recap

2020 Genesis Invitational

This week we travel to the Riviera Country Club. This course plays as a Par 71 that stretches to 7,322 yards. The greens here are Poa Annua.

Recent Form

Hadwin makes his return to the Punt Plays in less than a month where he disappointed us the first go around. Now he is 6th overall in my model with no stat below 34th overall. This is the event he exceeds value.

Aside from not having great recent form on Poa greens, I like C-Hoff here at 15th overall in my model with his three Top 11 stats.

Old Man Furyk often made this list last season and he is back again with being 17th overall in total strokes gained. His old man-ness is causing his OTT and BS numbers to suffer, but I still have faith in him making the cut.

Sam’s favorite golfer Baddeley is also back on this list for his 2nd time this young season. I don’t have TOO much faith in him this week, but he is the BEST golfer (recently) on Poa greens, so for his power being crap, he can make up for it with his short game.

Usually OTT and BS stats tend to go hand in hand. Here we see an OTT rank MUCH lower than his BS. This essentially means he is striking the ball, but his accuracy is garbage. That being said, Ortiz is (recently) good on Poa greens, so I think he can make up for it, hopefully.

James Hahn’s worst stats are in regard to Poa greens, and they aren’t even THAT bad. $6500 and a previous win here? I’ll take it.

Tournament History

3 straight made cuts for Ortiz here with a 9th place finish last year. Only $6800? Plug away.

3 made cuts over last 4 with a take down in 2015. Hahn is only $6500? Plug away.

Hadwin has 5 straight makes here with a 6th place finish in 2018. Does he miss in 2020 and fool me twice? I don’t think so.

Old Man Furyk is 3 for last 4 here. I wish he was a little less than 7K. I would love him a lot more at $6700.

Baddeley is only $6300. As long as he makes the cut he should hit value, and he has done so each of the last 2 years here.

C-Hoff is the ONLY Punt Play this week to miss the cut last year. However, he did have 4 straight makes prior with a 4th place finish in 2017. Let’s just call last year a fluke.
