2018 The Greenbrier Classic – Trevis’ Punt Plays

%ALT_TXT%%

If you haven’t played a PGA contest on FantasyDraft yet, I’ll fill you in. You can roster 7 golfers. Only the top 6 scores are added to your overall score, thus the lowest score of the 7 golfers in your lineup is dropped and does not count against you at all. It doesn’t matter if it was your most expensive golfer that bit the dust and missed the cut (Spieth earlier this year), or if it was a minimum salary punt play that performed like minimum price players typically do. The salaries for PGA on FantasyDraft are also rather tight so you usually must have a relatively cheap or min. priced player to help roster one or two “favorites to win”.

With that said, the purpose of this weekly PGA article is to enlighten you to the best PGA Punt Plays for the week. The overall goal here is to find the cheap golfer that can make the cut and aide your roster in case one of your “Top 6” falter or miss the cut altogether. If you roster one of these suggested players and they are the lowest score on your lineup, it usually means your “Top 6” performed adequately.

Last Week Recap:

Chad Campbell – $11,700 FDraft | $6,600 DK | $7,700 FD – MC (because of a DBB on FINAL HOLE)

Robert Garrigus – $12,000 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,700 FD – 27th place with -4

Geoff Ogilvy – $11,100 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,200 FD – MC (after a 67 in 1st round)

Ricky Barnes – $10,500 FDraft | $7,100 DK | Not Listed – MC

Jason Gore – $11,000 FDraft | $6,600 DK | $7,000 FD – MC

2018 The Greenbrier Classic

Here we have another Par 70 at 7,300 yards with bentgrass greens.

Chad Campbell – $11,800 FDraft | $6,900 DK | $7,500 FD

Yup. Third straight week of CC. 2 weeks ago he just ate it. Last week he hit a double bogey on the final hole Friday to miss cut. This week he finally makes the cut, and I’m looking for a site that has that bet. He is 3 for 4 on making it here in the most recent 4 years with a great 9th place finish here last year. He is now FOURTH overall in my model for relative recent form with 3 stats in the top 9. 9th in SG: T2G, 5th in SG: BS, and 2nd in SG: APP. This is his week. He WILL make the cut.

Jonas Blixt – $11,700 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,100 FD

My favorite thing about Blixt this week is I added him to my list of Punts before checking course history THEN I see that he WON this event in 2014. Granted he has missed cut the last two year, but I take what I can get. Blixt comes in at FIFTH overall in total strokes gained with 4 stats inside the top 11. He best ones are 5th in both SG: SG and SG: ARG.

Will Claxton – $10,400 FDraft | $6,500 DK | $7,000 FD

Claxton hasn’t played here in the last 3 years and the last time he did he missed the cut. Purely a recent form on relative course play. Claxton is near minimum price and comes in at 34th overall in total strokes gained. Nothing inside the top 32, but nothing too far gone either. Mr. Consistent across the board.

Ben Silverman – $11,300 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,300 FD

Silverman hasn’t competed here and is purely a recent form play as well. Silverman is 18th overall in total strokes gained. The only thing I fear with him is his approach and around the green. However, his SG: OTT is 9th and his SG: P is 5th overall.

David Hearn – $11,700 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,800 FD

David Hearn makes the list for his course history. He is 4 for 5 in recent years with a 2nd place finish in 2016 and 14th here last year. Hearn is 29th overall in total strokes gained. He sucks at striking and off the tee but makes up for it with a stellar short game. So yeah, course history.

Stat Key

SG – Strokes Gained

SG: TOT – Total

SG: T2G – Tee to Green

SG: BS – Ball Striking

SG: SG – Short Game

SG: OTT – Off the Tee

SG: APP – Approach

SG: ARG – Around the Green

SG: P – Putting
