Related imageIf you haven’t played a PGA contest on FantasyDraft yet, I’ll fill you in. You can roster 7 golfers. Only the top 6 scores are added to your overall score, thus the lowest score of the 7 golfers in your lineup is dropped and does not count against you at all. It doesn’t matter if it was your most expensive golfer that bit the dust and missed the cut (Spieth earlier this year, DJ in The Open), or if it was a minimum salary punt play that performed like minimum price players typically do. The salaries for PGA on FantasyDraft are also rather tight so you usually must have a relatively cheap or min. priced player to help roster one or two “favorites to win”.

With that said, the purpose of this weekly PGA article is to enlighten you to the best PGA Punt Plays for the week. The overall goal here is to find the cheap golfer that can make the cut and aide your roster in case one of your “Top 6” falter or miss the cut altogether. If you roster one of these suggested players and they are the lowest score on your lineup, it usually means your “Top 6” performed adequately.

Last Week Recap:

Pat Perez – $11,400 FDraft | $7,000 DK | $8,500 FD – Finished 17th with -2

Adam Hadwin – $11,6000 FDraft | $7,000 DK | $8,500 FD – Finished 35th with +1

Alexander Levy – $11,500 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,900 FD – Missed Cut

2018 RBC Canadian Open

Glen Abbey GC in Ontario, Canada is a Par 72 that is 7,253 yards long with a mix of Bentgrass and Poa Annua Greens

Tyrone Van Aswegen – $10,800 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,200 FD

TVA is someone who I’ve had in my punt place and has let me down each time. This time though, it’s different, trust me. He has made 3 straight cuts here finishing with a respectable 19th place last year. He comes with the best recent form for relative courses at 12th overall in total strokes gained. His only downside is that he lack power as he is bottom of the barrel in SG: OTT and mediocre in SG: BS. However, he does have 4 stats in the top 13 (T2G, SG, APP, ARG)

Robert Streb – $11,900 FDraft | $6,900 DK | $8,000 FD

Streb is someone who has also burned me in this weekly article this season. In the last 3 years he has only competed here once (2016) where he finished 32nd.  Streb comes in at 24th in total strokes gained. He has no warning signs and his SG: OTT is actually his best stat ranking at 15th overall.

Tom Hoge – $11,700 FDraft | $7,100 DK | $7,600 FD

T-Hog made the cut in 2015 where he amazingly finished in 5th place, and also here last year where he finished 32nd. Hoge comes in at 25th in total strokes gained. Just like TVA, his only downside is SG: OTT. He ranks 9th overall in SG: APP and has 3 other stats in the top 31 (T2G, SG, ARG).

Stephan Jaeger – $11,500 FDraft | $7,100 DK | $7,800 FD

Jaeger-bomb has no recent course history for this event. He is also tied for 25th in total strokes gained. Even though it’s not of great concern, his worst stat is SG: P. His best is 20th in SG: T2G and 28th in SG: APP.

Ben Silverman – $11,700 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,500 FD

I wish I could say Silverman has no recent course history here, but he did compete in 2014 where he missed the cut, and that’s it for course history. Another Punt tied for 25th in total strokes gained. (I think this is a record that all Punt Plays are within top 25 of recent from SG: TOT. His worst stat is SG: ARG and his best is 11th in SG: APP with T2G and BS also ranking in the top 34.
