If you haven’t played a PGA contest on FantasyDraft yet, I’ll fill you in. You can roster 7 golfers. Only the top 6 scores are added to your overall score, thus the lowest score of the 7 golfers in your lineup is dropped and does not count against you at all. It doesn’t matter if it was your most expensive golfer that bit the dust and missed the cut (Spieth earlier this year), or if it was a minimum salary punt play that performed like minimum price players typically do. The salaries for PGA on FantasyDraft are also rather tight so you usually must have a relatively cheap or min. priced player to help roster one or two “favorites to win”.
With that said, the purpose of this weekly PGA article is to enlighten you to the best PGA Punt Plays for the week. The overall goal here is to find the cheap golfer that can make the cut and aide your roster in case one of your “Top 6” falter or miss the cut altogether. If you roster one of these suggested players and they are the lowest score on your lineup, it usually means your “Top 6” performed adequately.
Last Week Recap:
Chad Campbell – $11,800 FDraft | $6,900 DK | $7,500 FD – Finished E in 69th place
Jonas Blixt – $11,700 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,100 FD – Missed Cut
Will Claxton – $10,400 FDraft | $6,500 DK | $7,000 FD – Missed Cut
Ben Silverman – $11,300 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,300 FD – Finished -2 in 56th place
David Hearn – $11,700 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,800 FD – Finished -6 in 30th place
2018 John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run
Here we have a Par 71 at 7,268 yards with bentgrass greens. Easy course. Expect high scores and a TON of birdies.
Daniel Summerhays – $11,700 FDraft | $7,000 DK | $7,000 FD
Summerhays has above average course history at this event. He is 4 for 5 in recent years will all 4 finishes inside the top 13! He did miss the cut here 2 years ago. His recent form for relative courses is all over the place. He comes in FIRST overall in SG: SG, SECOND in SG: ARG, and 15th in SG: P. BUT, everything else is a mess. If he can control the accuracy and get to the green with ease, his bentgrass form is clearly stellar.
Patton Kizzire – $11,500 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,800 FD
Kizzire only competed here last year when he finished in 25th place. Kizzire clocks in at 15th overall in total strokes gained. His worst stats are in OTT and ARG but he is also stellar in the short game with bentgrass greens as he is 28th in SG, 13th in P, and 10th in APP.
Jonathan Byrd – $11,300 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,100 FD
Byrd had the best finish here last year of all of my Punts as he finished in 5th. He didn’t compete here in 2016, missed in 2015, and made the cut the 2 years prior. Besides Byrd being 5th overall in SG: ARG, everything else is just okay. Nothing too horrible, nothing too exiting, consistent.
Carl Pettersson – $10,300 FDraft | $6,400 DK | $7,00 FD
Pettersson has a weird history as this is the first time he has competed here in consecutive years. He didn’t in 2014/2016. Last year here he W/D and in 2015 he finished a respectable 12th place. Pettersson comes in at 7th overall in total strokes gained. He is another Punt Play that is stellar with bentgrass greens coming in at 17th in SG: P, 8th in SG: ARG, and THIRD overall in SG: SG.
Hudson Swafford – $11,300 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,700 FD
Swafford didn’t compete here last year but made the cut in the 2 years prior. However he missed the cut in 2014. Huddy Swaff is 11th in total strokes gained. His recent form suffers in his SG and ARG but he makes up for it with a 10th in SG: T2G, 18th in SG: OTT, 6th in SG: APP, and THIRD overall in SG: BS.
