Joey’s TNF Showdown Throwndown
Hello DFS Grinders and Welcome back to my Thursday Night Football Showdown Throwdown article. Tonight we have what will probably be my least favorite Showdown game of the season and I will probably not be putting a lot of money on the slate. This is due to the fact that we have 2 good defenses playing 2 sub par offenses so I will be expecting a low scoring game. So this showdown slate could come down to simply guessing at the 1 or 2 touchdowns that will be scored. The Vegas total is currently set at 37.5 and I actually still like the under especially because Thursday night football games tend to be lower scoring. Earlier this season we saw this game 9-6 week 3 and I will be expecting a similar score.
Studs/MVP Candidates
Leonard Fournette: He is the obvious top play on the slate. He’s the only player that I think is guaranteed 10 points. In a really bad slate tonight he could be the diamond in the rough you need to ensure you reach green tonight. Since he has been back from injury he has 3 straight games of 20+ points even in 2 straight bad matchups. He’s just one of those guys I don’t think it is worth fading his raw point floor and ceiling is perfect in a matchup like this and should be a staple of all your lineups tonight.
Marcus Mariota: QBs are always Hes been playing great ever since he has his nerve damage has been fixed and can finally feel his hand. He has been doing amazing the past 5 weeks without counting the game he left early with an injury. I don’t expect another 20 point game here but his floor and Ceiling is one of the tops on the slate. If I don’t have Fournette at the MVP I will definitely have Mariota.
Middle Tier
Dion Lewis: Both these running backs will have a tough time getting much going on this stacked Jags defense but it’s the role in the passing game that makes him interesting to me.
Tajae Sharpe: I’m not expecting a ton of offense in this game but we could see a interesting matchup here. Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor will be lined up outside in some tough matchups. Teams have struggled against the Jags not as much as in the past but teams have had a lot of success in targeting the slot. We saw Cole Beasley go for 100+ and 2 TDs against them when the Cowboys were able to kill him. If we see the Titans focus on the slot they could have a lot of success in this game.
Defenses/Kickers
So this might be the area I want to be targeting tonight. I’m expecting a low scoring game because both these defenses should easily be able to hold the other’s offense in check. Both defenses are priced pretty high and for good reason it makes people think about this play instead of just plugging and playing them in an obvious spot.
Kickers are also a cheap option to go here on this ugly slate. I’m not expecting much offense in this game so field goals could be the main points scored here. Last game it ended 9-6 so if there is a similar outcome kickers could be the only points we are getting here.
Cheap Tier
Tennesse Titans TEs: Another route teams have gone for success against the Jags is throwing to the TEs. Jonnu Smith is the top TE skill wise on the team but Anthony Firker has been coming up as a great option on the team as well.
