Slate Thoughts:
Week 8
Quarterback
- The top overall quarterback and highest priced quarterback on this slate is Matt Corral. Corral has been playing at a Heisman trophy winning level so far this year. As of now he is questionable to play this weekend, however, Kiffin is pretty concerned about his health as of now, so this is something we are going to have to monitor going into Saturday. If he does play, I expect his arm to be utilized a little more vs. LSU, so that he doesn’t take on the hits he took on last week. He is down a few weapons in the passing game, so a few guys will have to step up and make plays, but I feel confident that Corral will play at a high level and produce a huge stat line in this game.
- If Corral were to be out this week, we could look at his backup… however, I would just pivot down to Caleb Williams, who has been DOMINANT over his first two games. There is some concern that this one gets out of hand early, and we could end up with a situation like we had with Cincy and Desmond Ridder last week, where the game is dominated by the running backs. However, at the top of the price range, Caleb Williams would offer us the highest floor/ceiling of the top tier options. I will keep our premium members up to date on all news concerning Corral and his injury status.
Others to consider: M. Johnson (LSU); S. Thompson (KSU); D. Ridder (CINCY); S. Hartman (WF); T. Tagovailoa (MD)-GPP
Running Back
- Travis Dye comes into this matchup vs. UCLA with huge upside. Dye is the THE man in the backfield for the Ducks with CJ Verdell being ruled out for the year. Last week he was the lead man, and produced 145 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, and also added in 7 receptions for 73 yards. UCLA is only allowing 95 rush yards per game, so things will not come very easy for the Oregon rush game, however, with Dye’s ability to catch the ball, he will present some challenges for those Linebackers trying to cover him in space.
- Speaking of guys that are able to be effective in the passing game, Deuce Vaughn is a guy that is extremely productive not only in the rushing game, but in the passing game. Vaughn has 23 receptions for over 200 yards and 2 touchdowns this year, to go along with over 500 yards rushing and 5 TD’s. Texas Tech ranks 92nd in the country in rush defense, allowing over 183 rush yards per game. I expect a high scoring game here, and for Vaughn to give this Texas Tech defense fits.
Others to consider: K. Brooks (OKLA); T. Davis-Price (LSU); B. Corum (MICH); H. Haskins (MICH); J. Ford (Cincy); B. Williams (MINN)-Value
Wide Receiver
- Jaquarii Roberson is really starting regain his form that we expected to see early this season. Over his last two games he has 15 receptions for 270 yards. Roberson is in a great spot to target, especially at a discounted 6.4k price tag.
- Rakim Jarrett is someone that stands out to me as solid value, especially considering Demus is out for the year. I targeted Jarrett in his last game vs. Ohio State, and well the entire Maryland offense was just a total let down. This week however, coming off of a bye, he should continue to see his targets increase. There is no denying that he is the most talented receiver on this Maryland team, and you would think that they are going to find ways to get the ball to their best player. Minnesota allow around 235 passing yards per game, and I expect Jarrett to challenge this secondary from the first snap. Great time to get on him while he is still priced under 6k.
Others to consider: C. Kolar (ISU); J. Dotson (PSU); M. Nabers (LSU); M. Woods (OKLA); G. Dulcich (UCLA); J. Pearson (MISS)
