Slate Thoughts:

  • Finally College football is back in our lives! To start, I absolutely love the Memphis vs. Arkansas State match-up Saturday night.  This game presents the highest game total on the slate, and it should reward us with plenty of fantasy goodness.  First combo I will look to target in cash games and gpps, is B. White and D. Coxie.  With such a high total on this game, I expect this to be a track meet.  With Kenneth Gainwell opting out I look for Memphis to lean on the passing game more so than the running game.  Coxie was White’s top target last year and I expect them to both have huge games Saturday.  Now with Gainwell out of the picture, the running back that tops the depth chart is Clark.  I expect him to get plenty of run, and decent opportunity, but I would not expect Gainwell returns.
  • The next team I will look to target Saturday is SMU.  SMU will be facing Texas State, and are currently 22 point favorites.  This game comes in right behind the Memphis game in terms of game total.  Buechele returns this year after having a great year last year.   He will lead this high powered offense and will not have a shortage of options to throw too.  The top option returning this year is Roberson Jr.  Roberson was really good last year, but with Proche out of the picture, he will get an increase in targets as he is the guy this year.  Buechele and Roberson are my second favorite QB/WR stack on this slate.  They have an extremely high ceiling, only downside is that SMU gets up big and turns to the ground game late, but if they do generate a big lead, these two will be a big reason why.
  • In cash games you are going to want to get plenty of pieces of the two games I touched on above, but in GPP’s I think we have some very interesting options to choose from.  The top target for me will be Asher O’Hara.  Asher is the QB for Middle Tennessee State.  He had a really solid season last year and put up some really good numbers .  O’Hara offers an extremely high ceiling due to his ability to run the ball.  They will be facing Army, who struggled at times last year on the defensive side of the ball.  Overall Army is an average defense, but not one that worries me.  Army’s offense is an option offense and can really grind away the clock, so there wont be many possessions for Asher to do damage, but when he does have the ball, he can make big play after big play.  He is my top GPP quarterback on the slate!
  • On the other side of this game I think that Army’s QB Christian Anderson makes for a very intriguing play.  Last season MTSU gave up nearly 200 rush yards per game, and they do not have a very good defense returning this year.  If they cannot figure out this option offense, it could be a long day for the MTSU defense and a HUGE day for Anderson and the rest of ARMY.
