Slate Thoughts:
- Day 2 of MAC action brings us three contests that should be much tighter than those we watched yesterday. The top game on my radar tonight is the matchup between Eastern Michigan and Ball State. After one game this year, it is pretty clear that both of these squads are going to struggle quite a bit this year on the defensive side of the ball. EMU allowed over 200 rushing yards last week. I likely will have plenty of access to this game in my cash core tonight, especially Caleb Huntley, running back for Ball State. Huntley is a true bell cow back for this Ball State squad and showed last week why he is one of the top running backs in this conference. EMU cannot stop the run, and I expect Ball State to expose their rush defense. Huntley is the clear top RB option on this slate.
- Looking into a few other plays from this contest, I really like Preston Hutchinson, Drew Plitt and Justin Hall. Hutchinson had a very solid outing last week throwing for 241 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ball State allowed 288 passing yards last week, a clear weak spot for this defense. I expect EMU to air it out today and Hutchinson will have a great opportunity to rack up yards and touchdowns in this contest. On the other side, Plitt and Hall are big threats in this Ball State offense. Plitt threw for over 300 yards and a touchdown last week, while Hall had over 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. Hall also added in a rushing touchdown, which shows just how versatile he is. I believe a Plitt/Hall stack makes a lot of sense vs. a defense that has a lot of issues. I expect this game to eclipse the game total of 61.
- Central Michigan may have one of the best offenses in this conference. Last week they beat a very solid Ohio team 30-27, while not playing their best on the offensive side of the ball. Daniel Richardson had a very solid game last week posting 243 passing yards and a touchdown. Richardson also added in a rushing touchdown. He looked very comfortable in this offense. Richardson is only priced at $6300 which is to cheap for a guy that offers you good upside with his arm, and upside with his rushing ability. NIU is not good on the defensive side of the ball, and I think they will have a hard time slowing this CMU offense down, especially Richardson. NIU did allow 182 rushing yards last week, which makes K. Lewis a great play tonight. Lewis was also involved in the passing game receiving 7 targets out of the backfield. This is an absolute smash spot for Lewis. He comes in right behind Huntley tonight for me, as far as top RB plays go on this slate. In cash, I will probably lock in both Huntley and Lewis, their matchups are too good to ignore.
- The passing attack for CMU is something that you want to get some of too. Richardson has two guys on the outside that I would look to pair with him in stacks. J. Sullivan and K. Pimpleton are the two CMU pass catchers I would look to pair with Richardson. Pimpleton received 11 targets last week and turned that into 5 receptions for 65 yards and touchdown. Sullivan received 6 targets turning it into 3 receptions for 43 yards. I expect Sullivan’s role in this offense to continue to increase, as he is a huge weapon on the outside for Richardson. In GPP’s I like stacking Richardson/Lewis/Pimpleton and Sullivan. This offense is poised to explode tonight vs. NIU!
- Western Michigan is a team that can be very explosive on offense. They have a tough matchup vs. Toledo tonight, who have a very solid defense. WMU absolutely destroyed Akron last week, and most of the WMU starters did not see much, if any action in the beyond the 3rd quarter. Tonight I expect Eleby, S. Moore and Eskridge to have big games. Eskridge looked very explosive last week, having multiple huge plays for this WMU offense. The guy that I think is a big misprice is Skyy Moore. Moore was the top WR coming into this year for Western Michigan, and although he didn’t have that huge game last week, he is still and will be a big part of this offense going forward. Moore comes in priced at $5600, a full $800 cheaper than Eskridge. Both of these receivers have big time ceilings, but on this particular slate, I will take the savings and play Skyy Moore if choosing between the two. In Gpp’s I love stacking Eleby/Moore/Eskridge; this stack has slate winning upside.
