Travis Kelce has performed well this season, but he hasn’t been the dominant option many have been anticipating. He has only scored 16+ fantasy points once this season, and a major reason has been his lack of touchdowns. Kelce gets a terrible matchup against the Denver Broncos tonight, as they rank fifth in the NFL in fantasy points allowed to tight ends this season. They are also giving up only 196 passing yards pre game in 2019. Most importantly, Denver has allowed only four passing touchdowns through six games, and Kelce will struggle to find the end zone once again.
Can we rely on kickers? Absolutely not, but this play makes sense. The Kansas City Chiefs possess a bend but don’t break defense, as they rank 27th in the NFL in total yards allowed, but only 19th in points allowed per game. Kansas City’s opponents are averaging 2.2 field goal attempts and 1.8 extra-point attempts per game in 2019. McManus has also scored double-digit fantasy points in each of his last two games. He’ll benefit from the thin air in Denver, and one 50+ yard field goal puts McManus over halfway to his total. This is certainly risky, but Denver is likely to be able to move the ball, but struggle in the red zone, as their offense is far from elite.
