Over/Under 2/2 – Green Bay Packers/Chicago Bears
Marquez Valdes-Scantling is coming off one of the better rookie seasons with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, posting 38 receptions with 581 yards and 2 touchdowns on 73 targets. Even with the success, MVS posted 45+ receiving yards in only 5 of 16 games. He’ll see a larger role in the offense in 2019, but he’ll still give way to Davante Adams as the clear-cut WR1. MVS will then be competing with Geronimo Allison, Jimmy Graham, and Aaron Jones. He’s expected to line up against Kyle Fuller for the majority of his snaps in this game, leaving other players to get significantly better matchups. The Chicago Bears also gave up only 219.7 passing yards per game in 2018. While I have high hopes for Valdes-Scantling for the season, this isn’t a matchup that he’s likely to thrive in. There are some question marks surrounding David Montgomery entering this game. Mike Davis is seen as a potential starter over him, but there are plenty of reasons to believe Montgomery will take over the Jordan Howard role this season. After his first preseason game, the Bears head coach, Matt Nagy, couldn’t stop gushing over Montgomery’s performance. The rookie then sat out the rest of the preseason, suggesting he has his role locked up. In two games against the Green Bay Packers in 2018, Jordan Howard ran for 60 and 82 yards. The Packers also gave up 119.9 rushing yards per game, and they worked on their pass rush over their run defense for this season. The only thing that would stop Montgomery from hitting this total would be limited carries, which isn’t out of the realm of possibilities. With that being said, I expect him to take over Howard’s role, setting this total a bit too low for his talent.
