I’m going to try and give more horses this time around so we don’t all have the same lineup.
High Price Favorites
Covfefe $9000 – Race 4
Covefefe is one of my favorite horses racing today. While I do think Covfefe will have to adapt to the rail (horse 1) and learning the Santa Anita quicksand, this horse is just too quick and too good to pass up. Bonus tip – Come Dancing is $500 cheaper and is the main challenger to covfefe and should also factor.
Improbable $8000 – Race 6
At 3/1, this horse isn’t the morning line favorite but should be around the wire. The favorite, Omaha Beach is $1400 more and think he doesn’t do as well as Improbable. I could be wrong, but I’ll save some money and go with the cheaper option.
Sistercharlie $9400 – Race 7
Real strong opinion on this one finishing first. The odds of 8/5 are spot on as the heavy favorite. If you were trying to beat this horse or save money, Fleeting is only $5000 and should come top 3 as well.
Midnight Bisou $9800 – Race 10
This is my favorite horse on the entire card. This girl has been on fire this year. Undefeated in 7 starts this year. Shes making a strong case for horse of the year. My only knock on the price is she rarely wins by more than 3 lengths. For the price, you’re getting a horse that should get 60 points and not much more of a bonus.
Mid Price Plays
Comical Ghost $3000 – Race 2
In a field of 5 horses, you are guaranteed points, unless your horse doesn’t finish or finishes by extreme lengths. While Flagstaff or Roadster (both $9600+) should be your winner, using comical ghost makes sense as the only speed of the race. I actually sort of like this horse to finish top 2 because I’m sensing a race that should favor the quick pace.
Pure Sensation $6,000 – Race 5
I have a sneaky suspicion that this horse will be the winner in this race. Love everything I see out of this horse, but with a full field of 14 horses, anything can happen when you look at pace indications. I’d throw this one as a more risky play as I’m just using my intuition.
Uni $7500 – Race 9
Uni should come top 3. I have uni slated top 2 in my notes. Lots of Euro horses in this race so not enough data to come up with a good idea on pace but Uni is a powerful horse.
Value Plays
Henley’s Joy $1000 – Race 3
Race 3 is a pretty huge field but I find it puzzling that Henley’s Joy is 10/1. I will be releasing a cheat sheet for today’s race, and you’ll see I actually like this horse to factor in the top 3 horses. While I do like other plays in this race too (8, 9 and 10 are all solid), I’m looking at the $1000 price tag and will have to use this one.
Shekky Shebaz $750 – Race 5
At 12/1, I can see pace scenarios where this horse is able to come top 3. It’s a tall order for the horse who was beaten by weaker last out, but the shorter distance is expected to help this true leader.
Alounak $250 – Race 11
This is a risky play. An international horse coming to America to try and close on one of the all-time best turf horses (Bricks and Mortar). Only use this horse if you need a fill-in for super cheap because we know this horse isn’t going to win, but hoping to get a piece of 2nd-5th.
