Karma Nation! This week the PGA Tour makes its first ever stop at the new Rocket Mortgage Classic being played at the Detroit Golf Club. This should be another low scoring event with the winner well into the double digits. We head into this new event with some momentum from last week, going 2-1 on both our match-ups and Top 20 bets! We will be playing a smaller card this week with it being a new course and no history to look back on. Lets get into the plays!
Hideki Matsuyama -125 vs Gary Woodland
Gary Woodland comes to Detroit off winning his first Major of his career, that being said he has been traveling alot for interviews and speaking engagements probably enjoying this moment and not putting his full prep into this event as he would normally. His win at the U.S. Open was only his 2nd Top 20 in his last 7 events, and he gained a crazy 17.9 strokes to win. He gained 7.2 strokes putting, which was the highest he’s had since 2015. Hideki enters this event off 4 straight Top 25s, and has gained strokes in every event he has played in 2019. Hideki is ranked 1st in Opportunities gained, Birdies or better gained, and 7th in Bogey avoidance.
The Play: Hideki Matsuyama -125 1 unit
Viktor Hovland -110 vs Byeong-Hun An
An is coming off a missed cut at the Travelers, and has lost 3 or more strokes total in 4 of his last 6 events, failing to make the cut in 3 of the 6. An is losing .9 strokes putting on poa this year and is 149th in putting. Hovland the newly turned pro has made 4 straight cuts including a 12th place finish at the U.S. Open. Viktor has gained strokes in all 4 events and is 9th in Tee to green, 4th in Ball striking, and 3 Off the Tee. Hovland is also ranked 9th in Opportunities gained. I look for another strong start for this very talented young golfer.
The Play: Viktor Hovland -110 1 unit
Rory Sabbatini -110 vs Jason Kokrak
Kokrak has cooled off from his hot start to the season by only finishing in the top 60 in 1 of his last 4 events including a missed cut at the Travelers. He has lost strokes total in 3 of the 4 events losing 5+ in 2. Over the last 12 rounds Kokrak is 127th in SG total, 88th T2G, and 145th in both around the green and putting. Sabbatini has been very consistent this year making his last 11 cuts. Rory has finished inside the Top 20 in 4 of his last 6 events. Over the last 24 rounds Sabbatini sits in 4th for SG total, 2nd ARG, 4th T2G, and 13th in BS. Rory is also 8th in bogey avoidance and 6th in birdie or better percentage.
