WNBA SEASON IS FINALLY HERE! If you’re new to the WNBA it’s okay it’s just like the NBA but no dunks, and oh yeah played by some of the most talented Woman on the planet! WNBA may not have some of the high-flying action as the NBA, but the game is still the same with dominating bigs in the post, high IQ players and guards with handles that can break your ankles. In this article I like to go over my favorite players for Studs, Value and Gpp at the two positions you will find in roaster construction for WNBA in Guards and Forwards.
Guards:
Kia Nurse (Stud) – Typically from the Liberty we target their All-star center Tina Charles who lead the WNBA in usage in 2017 and 2018, but due to a tough match up with Indy’s forwards we are going to look at someone who looks to be emerging as another key contributor for this team. Nurse who is now in her second year in the league has looked incredible this preseason and ready to help the team. Through 4 preseason games Nurse averaged 22min and a team high 17 points. With a team that struggled to produce consistently outside of Tina Charles, Nurse looks ready to be that 2nd contributor for this team and is priced just right for a low-end stud.
Other Studs plays: T. Hayes, K. Mitchell, R. Montgomery
Asia Durr (Gpp)- One thing as DFS player we all like is a good narrative. Bobby head night, t-shirt night, 5,000 rebounds you name it we jump all over it. In the case of New York liberty guard Asia Durr, she will be facing her friend Kelsey Mitchell and her mother and sister will be at the game. This will be Durr first WNBA game making it a bit unknown what we will get from her. In the preseason she had a pretty rough start through the first 3 games totaling only 9p, 8r, 4a and then finally caught fire and had a decent outing in the final preseason game where she put up 16p, 4r and 2a. Narrative alone makes her a great gpp play, but also the uncertainty that comes with playing rookies does as well.
Other gpp plays: A. Ogunbowale, A. Bentley, T. Mitchell
Forwards:
Williams (Stud)- This spot is a toss up because you have 3 top players listed above Liz Williams, but Liz comes out on top due to price and her potential ceiling. Williams has a great match up against a Dallas team who recently just traded away one of the biggest stars in the WNBA in Liz Cambage. Without Liz down low and news that Stevens will miss the game with a concussion this makes for an even more favorable match up for the Dreams bigs. Although her preseason numbers were not the greatest, we know the kind of player Liz is and can put up numbers such as 34dkp and 47.25dkp in her last 2 match ups against the Wings.
Other Studs plays: T. Charles, N. Achonwa, J. Breland
Dupree (Gpp)- Coming into her 14th season this WNBA vet finds herself as the 2nd highest priced forward on DK to begin the year. In her past 5 match up with the Liberty Dupree has only eclipsed 30dkp one time making it hard to believe she can pay off this high price tag out the gate. In Dupree 2 match up with the Liberty last season she had 27dkp and 39dkp, which is the only game she has eclipse the 30dkp mark. If you are willing to play Dupree over Breland or Charles, then I would hope for the 39dkp game over a 27dkp.
Other gpp plays: I. McGee-Stafford (Revenge game), N. Coffey, T. Plaisance
