Thoughts:
Updates to come to this section as we approach lock so continue to check back for more insight.
- Small 5 game slate, not going to go too heavy tonight but it is overall a very solid slate. I love all the options on the board and the matchups are pretty nice tonight. We have two pretty solid fast paced games that I want to focus on for midtier plays and value, with CHA/PHO and ATL/BKN. The only injury news we are waiting on is Trae Young essentially.
- If we are starting roster construction on both sites, I would start with Kawhi Leonard. Kawhi will be shouldering the load with Paul George out again, and today his price hasn’t moved much. He does get a bit of a tougher matchup vs the stout Denver Defense, but his usage and floor should be there for our cash games, especially without PG.
- The second player I’ll be building around is Terry Rozier. Rozier has been on fire to start the new year, he’s had 5 straight 23+ point games, and 4/5 have been over 27. This has lead him to 5x across the board along with 4 40 fdp games. I love the matchup vs PHO and the usage for him is there. I’m prioritizing him tonight as my top PG play.
- Another guy I love to pair with Rozier and Kawhi is John Collins. He is expensive yes, but if Trae is ultimately out he should be locked in all formats. I’m anticipating him to play anyways, so Collins still comes in as a top play for me due to the matchup against BKN. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, I really love Jarrett Allen as well, he also has a great matchup vs ATL and although the minutes are a concern, if he starts I have no issue running him in cash. Hard decision choosing between Kawhi/JA/JC today.
- I love Taurean Prince as a value play to round out my core. He’s in a revenge narrative spot and has a cheap price tag. He’s just around 5k and has been playing solid minutes. If Chandler is out again today Prince should get more run as well.
- Another core play I am considering is Lou Williams. He will likely still come off the bench and get all the usage… 6th man like I’m Lou Will! He’s relatively affordable on both sites and I will likely take a good look at him tonight. Core consideration play here.
- Now, for tournaments, this is where I believe we can get a little more “different”. I would use the other plays listed below to differentiate yourself from the field.
- Below are the players I would consider in your “pool” tonight when building 3-20 lineups. This is 100% the approach everyone reading this article should be taking tonight. There are plenty of 3-max, 5-max, 20-max contests to enter
- The players I’m using in my “pool” tonight (outside of locking Kawhi, Rozier, Prince, one of Collins, Allen)
-
- Trae Young
- DeMar DeRozan
- Lou Williams
- Nikola Jokic
- Jonas Valanciunas
- Kevin Huerter
- Joe Harris
- Patrick Beverley
- Alex Len
- Kelly Oubre Jr.
- Will Barton
- Remember to try to add as much correlation to your lineups as possible. More games go to OT than you think in the NBA and mini-game stacks are an underutilized strategy in NBA DFS tournaments. (Again, you can use the table above to identify the game-stacks I’ll be on).
- My top game stack is ATL/BKN. I love BKN- Prince/Allen/Harris with Collins/Young/Huerter for ATL.
