NBA DFS – Bales’ Top GPP Plays (12/31/20)

Welcome to another edition of Bales’ Top GPP plays. In this article, I will outline my favorite NBA GPP plays for today’s games. If you want all of my core plays along with our staff’s Final Thoughts articles and access to our Discord, click here

Guards

John Wall

Wall hasn’t taken the court in a regular season game since December 26, 2018. He averaged 20.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 8.7 assists, and 1.5 steals in 34.5 minutes per game over 32 games that season. Wall looked outstanding over a trio of preseason games, though, averaging 16.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.7 steals in only 22.9 minutes per game.

He gets an interesting matchup against the Sacramento Kings tonight. They ranked 21st in the NBA in pace and 20th in defensive efficiency last season. Wall was traded to the Houston Rockets in the offseason. He’ll be a focal point of the offense with James Harden, as he’s expected to find a usage rating around 26% tonight. Wall’s also expected to find 30+ minutes in this game, as he was forced to miss the first few games of the season in quarantine rather than because of injury. He looked healthy in the preseason, and his price tag doesn’t represent his talent prior to his injury. Wall may go overlooked because of Harden, but he’s an elite tournament option before his price tag skyrockets.

Bigs

Steven Adams

Adams has seen mixed results early this season. Through 4 games, he’s averaging 8.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 1.5 steals (26.6 fantasy points) in 29.2 minutes per game. His versatility was on full display against the Toronto Raptors, scoring 34.5 fantasy points in 31 minutes.

Adams gets a great matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, who ranked 22nd in the league in pace and seventh in defensive efficiency last season. They’re in a rebuild this season, though, and are playing at a faster pace with less defensive prowess. Adams isn’t a high usage player, but he has the ability to contribute in each of the five categories. He’s expected to see 30+ minutes tonight, as well. Adams boasts double-double potential that he hasn’t hit yet this season. He should thrive against his former team, who don’t have the size to stop him in the paint. Adams gets the revenge narrative tonight, although the plus matchup is significantly more important than that aspect. He has yet to flash his ceiling this season, making him a great option for his price tag against his former team.
