What’s up everyone and welcome to Ben’s Building Blocks! If you’ve never read my content before, welcome. To those that have, welcome back. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports during NBA season. This article is designed for me to highlight the top plays of the day. Obviously, things can change rapidly in the NBA with injury news close to lock, so I would be sure to subscribe to our premium package for access to our Final Thoughts cheat sheet, our premium discord channel and my core plays. Our Core Plays product gives you the ability to tail all of our analysts in your contests each night. We do the work for you, and you simply plug and play with our premium Core Plays. With that being said, let’s hop into the plays…
Building Blocks
Anthony Davis
Davis was the top option in this article earlier this week, and will likely continue to be featured as long as LeBron James is out. Davis looks back to form and is coming off a monster game earlier this week. We have a pretty decent sample-size of him on the floor without LeBron James and Russell Westbrook — which has resulted in almost 1.6 DK points per minute. This game should be fast-paced, and with just a one-point spread it’s very likely the Lakers will need Davis to take over again. Every game moving forward for LA is a must win — so he will play ceiling minutes loads in close games and I think he should be priced closer to $11K on DK tonight.
Terry Rozier
Rozier is another guy that was featured in this article earlier this week — and I will likely continue buying into him with Lamelo Ball out for the rest of the season. It’s very likely he ends up being priced over $8,000 soon — so getting him at $7,700 on DK still feels like a discount. His usage rate rises 6% with Ball off the floor — the highest rate on the team and giving him a 33% usage rate overall. Orlando has been a premium match-up for ball dominant guards at times this season, and I think he could really pop off if his shot is falling. He will be high-owned, so he isn’t a must in GPPs, but he will be one of the first players in my cash build on both sites tonight.
Value Plays
Willy Hernangomez
Willy Hernangomez checks in as the top-overall graded value play tonight, and should be one of the two or three highest-owned players as well. He will start and log the bulk of the center minutes for the Pelicans with Jonas Valanciunas doubtful — yet is priced as if he’s still in a back-up role. He’s actually been one of the better players on the Pelicans this season in terms of fantasy points per minute production at 1.27. We currently have him projected for around 25 minutes of action — but we want to confirm that he’s starting before locking him into our builds. I will also note that he did not close the game — as the Pelicans went small — so he is worthy of fading outside cash games at this high of expected OWN%. Pivoting even to his teammate Jaxson Hayes makes some sense.
