Guards
Vince Cole (STJN) vs. Boston College
Cole has played really well to open up this season. Cole was one of the most sought after JUCO players in the last cycle. Cole shot 45% from 3 last year at the JUCO level, and has continued his incredible shooting this season. In the season opener, Cole came in off the bench and played 26 minutes scoring 21 points with 2 rebounds. He provided a nice spark to this St. Johns team and earned himself a spot in the starting lineup in their next game vs. LaSalle. He played really well in that game scoring 19 points with 4 assist and 5 rebounds, he also added in 2 steals. Cole should continue to see big minutes going forward. Cole and Alexander are both really strong plays tonight.
Caleb Love (UNC) vs. UNLV
This game has the highest total on the slate. Both of these teams like to play fast. Caleb Love had a nice start to his UNC career playing 26 minutes scoring 17 points adding in 4 rebounds. Love showed that he was not going to be afraid to shoot the ball, his 11 FG attempts prove that. I expect that his jump shot and 3pt shot will only improve with time, but he showed a very nice ability to get to the rim and finish in traffic. Watching Love, his game reminds me of Coby Whites game. He is able to get out in transition and push the pace, can find the open man, or drive to rim and finish.
Bryce Hamilton & David Jenkins (UNLV) vs. UNC
I really want to target this game tonight due to the style both of these teams like to employ. Bryce Hamilton and David Jenkins are part of a very talented backcourt for this UNLV squad. UNC looked like you would expect a young team to look on the defensive end in their first game vs. CofC. Hamilton came into this season as UNLV’s top returning scorer, where he averaged 16 ppg last season. Jenkins is a South Dakota State transfer, where he averaged 19.7 ppg last season. Jenkins was voted preseason newcomer of the year award in the Mountain West, and is expected to take on a big role alongside Hamilton. Hamilton had a phenomenal opener scoring 27 points with 8 rebounds and 4 assist. Hamilton and Jenkins should find plenty of room to work tonight, and with the style both of these teams play they should be able to get out in transition and get some easy buckets.
Others to consider: W. Tabbs (BC); P. Alexander (STJN); G. Williams (STJN); D. Stewart Jr. (MSST); C. Grill (STJN); D. Davis (STAN); M. Ashton-Langford (BC)
Forwards
UNC Bigs vs. UNLV
Anytime we get UNC bigs in an up-tempo contest, they have to be considered. Garrison Brooks, Armando Bacot and Day’Ron Sharpe are the top three Bigs for this UNC team. They are led by Brooks, pre season ACC POY, who is an elite rebounder and has a very good offensive game mid range and in. Brooks is obviously the most expensive one of the bunch, but in this type of environment he is poised for a double/double. Bacot is the next big in the pecking order. Bacot is really good around the rim, but is still struggling with his mid range game. Bacot is the better offensive rebounder of the two, but both are solid in that department. UNLV is vulnerable when it comes to allowing offensive rebounds, their weakness on the glass will increase the ceiling for each of these players. Day’Ron Sharpe is the talented freshman, who showed in their first game that he can be a stat stuffer even in a reserve role. In just 22 minutes he was able to rack up 10 points and 13 boards. He should continue to see a solid allotment of minutes being the key reserve for both Bacot and Brooks.
Oscar Da Silva (Stanford) vs. Alabama
Da Silva is the top returning threat for this Stanford Cardinals team. He is a a very intelligent big man, who has elite passing ability for his position. Stanford has a talented Freshman in Ziaire Williams who should help take some attention away from Da Silva, making him more of a threat. Alabama will look to speed this Stanford team up, which should benefit a big like Da Silva. One issue with any big in an up tempo game is foul trouble. If he can avoid getting into foul trouble, I like him to give this Alabama front court fits. Alabama allowed 20 offensive rebounds in their first game. **NOTE** Ziaire is FREE on FD tonight. FD has him priced at 3K. LOCK HIM IN.
Tulo Smith (Mississippi State) vs. Texas State
Tulo is a Western Kentucky transfer that has been a real bright spot for this Bulldogs squad. Through two games with his new team he is averaging 16 points and 8 rebounds per game. He was not seeing much time at WKU playing behind talented big man C. Bassey, now he is getting all the minutes he can handle. Smith is averaging 34 minutes per game. Today he will be taking on a Texas State team that will struggle with Mississippi States size in the frontcourt. Texas St. is not a very good rebounding team, something that Tulo Smith excels at. Smith should come a touch under owned due to him being priced around Da Silva, S. Mitchell and G. Brooks price, it is a good time to get him at lower ownership.
Others to consider: T. Smith (MSST); H. Jones (ALA); I. Small (TXST); CJ Felder (BC); J. Williams (AUB); D. Sharpe (UNC); Z. Williams (STAN)
