Welcome to Brian’s CBB slate breakdown. In this article, I will share a few of my top plays on the slate, and discuss who you should target in cash and gpp contests. If you would like to gain access to our CBB core plays, final thoughts, and premium discord, click here.
Guards
Moses Moody (Arkansas) vs. Colgate
I want to get plenty of exposure to this Arkansas/Colgate matchup. Both of these teams will look to push the pace, and with Colgate being an up-tempo team, that plays right into the hands of Arkansas strength. Moody has been sensational this year for the Razorbacks and could be a key piece to a deep tourney run this year. Moody has had 40+ DK points in 4 of his last 6 games. This matchup is perfect for a big time game from Moody and the rest of the Razorbacks.
Taz Sherman (West Virginia) vs. Morehead State
Sherman is arguably playing his best basketball of the season over the teams last 5 games. In those game he has had 25+ DK points in all five of those games. He gets a solid matchup vs. Morehead state here and comes in at a very reasonable price point. I expect he will continue to get up plenty of shots, and as long as his shot is on, he has a nice ceiling. However, with him being more of a scoring dependent play he may make more sense in GPP’s rather than cash games, but I really like Taz today.
Forwards
EJ Liddell (Ohio State) vs. Oral Roberts
Ohio State might be hitting their stride at the right time. Liddell is as huge reason why they have had so much success this year. Liddell is a really goo scorer down low, can hit the mid range shot and can even hit the long ball if he is left open. He leads the team with a 27% usage rate, and is second to only Washington with a 28% shot rate. Ohio State has one of the highest implied team totals on the slate, so you may want to find some exposure to this Buckeye team, whether it be Liddell, Washington, Sueing or Walker.
Justin Smith (Arkansas) vs. Colgate
Again, I really want to get exposure to this Razorbacks team. Colgate are a top 25 tempo team this year, and are below average defensively. They are much worse at defending the paint than they are defending the perimeter. Smith is a guy that is going to contribute in multiple areas. He can score, rebound and defend. He averages right at 1 block per game and a little over 1 steal per game. Look for him to play a big role in this matchup.
Johni Broome (Morehead State) vs. West Virginia
I love Broome’s game. I really think he has a chance to be a special player, and he gets an opportunity to show what he can do against another talented big in Culver. Broome is 6’10, is a very skilled shot blocker and rebounder. He is playing nearly 30 minute per game, and over his last 5 games he is averaging 17 points, 12 rebounds and nearly 2 blocks. Yea, he has struggled against higher level competition earlier in the season, but he has improved a ton since his first games of the season. At his price, he presents very nice value. I will be loading up on some Broome today!
