Guards
TyTy Washington (Kentucky) vs. Michigan State
Ty Ty looks like the alpha for this Kentucky team this year. He has led this team in scoring through their exhibition games, and is expected to play a big time role this season. Washington is a player who can get to the rim with ease, and knock down open jumpers with confidence. Coach Cal has really talked highly of him during the off-season, and talked about how versatile his game is. This game vs. Duke is a fun game to target, and should have some nice pace to it.
Dae Dae Grant (Miami-OH) vs. Georgia Tech
Dae Dae Grant is a preseason All-Conference player, who is expected to carry a heavy offensive workload for this Miami-Ohio team. Grant is a good three point shooter, shooting over 40% from 3 last season. Grant carried a 25% usage rate last season, and I could actually see that increase some this year. He does come into this game with a questionable tag, but I am seeing no reports of an injury or suspension, so he should be good to go. He is also a very good value piece, priced at only 4.8k.
Forwards
Armando Bacot (UNC) vs. Loyola (MD)
Bacot is one of my top spend ups on this slate. He is an elite rebounder, and an above average shot blocker. He has continued to improve his offensive game this off-season, and reports are that he has flashed the ability to step out and make shots beyond the arc. If he is able to make shots from the perimeter, as well as dominate in the paint, he would come with an insane ceiling every night he plays. Under Roy Williams, you hardly saw a big step out and play from the perimeter, they were typically tied down to the paint. Under Hubert Davis, he is allowing the bigs to come out of the paint and help space the floor. I really like Bacot, and expect him to be one of the most dominant bigs in the ACC this season.
Paulo Banchero (DUKE) vs. Kentucky
Speaking of dominant bigs, Banchero was not voted as pre-season ACC player of the year for no reason. This kid is an absolute stud. Banchero is a 6’10 250lb SUPER athletic big who, like Zion Williamson did, can do everything for this Duke team. Banchero has the ability to dominate the boards, affect shots on the interior, while he also possesses the ability to run his own break. Banchero is also an elite passer. In Duke’s last exhibition Banchero finished with 21 points and 9 rebounds in only 20 minutes. He is going to cause so many problems for this Kentucky defense. Banchero and Bacot will both find their way into my main lineup tonight.
Kenneth Lofton Jr. (Louisiana Tech) vs. Alabama
Lofton, the pre-season favorite to win C-USA player of the year, is expected to be a dominant force on both ends of the court for this Louisiana Tech team. Lofton is a massive human, measuring in at 6’8 275 pounds. This is a game environment vs. an up tempo Alabama that can be very conducive to big time fantasy performances. Lofton led this Louisiana Tech team in both scoring and rebounding as a freshman. In three games vs. the SEC last season, Lofton averaged nearly 20 points and 10 rebounds. You will want to take advantage of this price tag while you can, because I do not expect us to get Lofton at a sub 7k price range again this season.
Gabe Brown (Michigan State) vs. Kansas
Brown is expected to step into a much larger role this year with the likes of Langford and Henry now departed from the program. Brown is a very good shooter, especially from beyond the arc, shooting 42% from deep last season and 55% from the field. He was one of the top offensive producers in the Spartans pre-season games leading the team in FGA in each pre-season game. Brown is only priced at 4.4k, which is way to cheap for the role he is expected to play this season. I will be locking Brown into my main lineup tonight.
