Welcome to Brian’s CBB slate breakdown. In this article I will share a few of my top plays on the slate, and discuss who you should target in cash and gpp contests. If you would like to gain access to our CBB core plays, final thoughts, and premium discord, click here.
Guards
Devontae Shuler (Ole Miss) vs. Alabama
This is one of the best games to target due to Alabama playing with an up tempo style of play. Alabama ranks in the top 30 in tempo according to Kenpom rankings. Players from Ole Miss will greatly benefit from playing in this up tempo game. Shuler is a player that stands out to me in this matchup. Shuler leads this Ole Miss team with a shot rate of 26% and a usage rate of 25%. He can fill a stat sheet up and for a price of $6100, he is one of the better values on this slate.
Boo Buie (Northwestern) vs. Iowa
If there is one thing we have learned so far this year, it is that when Iowa is on a slate, you want to target the Hawkeyes due to their lethal offense, but you also want to target players playing against Iowa due to their very lackluster defense. Buie is a very good deep ball shooter, shooting over 50% from 3 this season. He has also shown a very good ability to distribute the ball, averaging nearly 6 assist per game. The pace of this game should be very fast, and it is projected to carry the highest total on the slate. I think you will want 2-3 players from this game in your main lineup tonight
Geo Baker (Rutgers) vs. Purdue
Baker has had to work his way back from an injury this year, slowly seeing his minutes per game rise each game. He has played over 30 minutes per game over his last two games and appears to have found his way into a steady workload. It should be noted that Baker was one of the top offensive threats for this Rutgers team last year. He has all the skills needed to produce big numbers, as evidenced by last seasons numbers. He has not shot the ball particularly well to start the season, however I expect some positive regression. Not sure if he will be included into the starting 5 anytime soon, but with a steady 30+ minutes of action and his ability to fill a stat sheet, I like him at his 5.3k price on DK and sub 5k price on FD.
Others to consider: C. Thomas (LSU); J. Wieskamp (IOWA); L. Rodriguez (MISS); M. Sasser (HOU); J. Bohannon (IOWA); W. Bede (VT); B. Rachal (TLSA); J. Petty Jr. (ALA)
Forwards
Luka Garza (Iowa) vs. Northwestern
Garza is the top play on this slate, and really any slate that he is on. Iowa has the highest projected team total on the slate tonight. He will be facing a tough Northwestern defense tonight, but a defense that does not have an answer for Garzas combination of size, skill and perimeter shooting. He comes with the highest floor and ceiling of anyone on this slate.
Miller Kopp (Northwestern) vs. Iowa
We will want to find pieces of this Iowa/Northwestern game to fit into our main lineup tonight, Kopp is someone who makes a lot of sense in targeting. Kopp plays over 30 minutes per game for Northwestern, and over his last couple of games has really played solid basketball in all areas of the game. He is averaging almost 2 steals per game, and nearly 15 points per game. He should find offensive production much easier in this matchup vs. the struggling Iowa defense. Buie, Kopp and Nance are my top targets from Northwestern tonight, and in that order.
Darius Days (LSU) vs. Texas A&M
Days is leading this LSU squad with nearly 9 rebounds per game, and also scoring nearly 15 points per game. He is relentless on the boards and is a straight up bully in the paint. His size and rebounding ability will be needed tonight vs. A&M. LSU is projected with the 3rd highest team total on the slate with a 74 point team implied total. LSU has some very interesting pieces to target tonight, Days is one of my favorite.
Others to consider: T. Watford (LSU); R. Harper Jr. (RUT); T. Williams (PUR); E. Miller (TA&M); A. Simms (CLEM); M. Johnson (RUT); R. White (MISS); P. Nance (NW); M. Gillis (PUR); J Ojiako (VT) *Value if playing*
