Ben’s Building Blocks – NBA Cash Game Plays for 1/14/18

Well, well, well. With all of the news that has broken early today, it has turned this into another extremely chalky slate. Cash games roster construction is very direct tonight, and for that reason I’m going to tailor my article a bit differently today. There is a very clear way to go about making a cash game team tonight, so I will do my best to point you in the right direction.

Jam Them In

With all of the value available, I think that the absolute first step tonight on both FanDuel and DraftKings is to just lock in both of James Harden and Anthony Davis. Harden is coming off a 74.8 FanDuel point performance last night, on the back of a 1-17 shooting night from deep…and now Clint Capela is out. Davis has been a monster himself this season, and gets a solid matchup with the Clippers who play at a top-ten pace.

The Value

Boston Celtics- With Kyrie Irving ruled out, and Marcus Smart sitting at doubtful, the Celtics become the prime place to look for value on Monday night. Terry Rozier has been playing much better as of late, and he sees a near 3% usage increase with Irving and Smart off the floor this season. He would be the first player that I put into my lineups with Harden/AD, and then we have to choose between the likes of Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, Marcus Morris and Jayson Tatum. I don’t think that it’s a stretch at all to plug in four C’s for cash games, and I would rank them in the order that I listed them.

Shelvin Mack- Mack becomes a premier value play at his price tonight, specifically on FanDuel, with Kyle Anderson out for the Grizzlies. I don’t expect him to move into the starting lineup, but the minutes will rise with Anderson out of the rotation and you are protected by the low-score drop scoring.

San Antonio Spurs- The Spurs have a trio of players on my radar tonight, in Derrick White, Davis Bertans and Pau Gasol. Bertans sticks out to me as the strongest overall play, especially on FanDuel as a cheap SF. White fits the mold as another cheap point guard to pair with Mack, and if you don’t want to go that route you can simply punt center with Gasol. You can also put Clint Capela into the value center range, but that would be for FanDuel only where your low score can get dropped.

Joe Ingles- Ingles is not the sexiest play on the board, but at $6,300 I think he fits in perfectly for some of my cash builds. He has topped 30+ minutes in five straight games, and he will continue to see more shot attempts with all of the Jazz injured players.

Marc Gasol/Al Horford- If you choose not to punt center with Gasol, I think the decision comes down to Al Horford vs Marc Gasol. Horford is tougher to fit in because you can only play four Celtics on FanDuel, but he is a good bit cheaper than Gasol. Gasol is not someone I have really targeted this season, but the matchup against Houston is good, and even better now that Clint Capela is out.
