With that being said, let’s dive into today’s slate…
Top Pitchers
Gerrit Cole
Cole has been having a solid year overall with a couple of outlier performances. I really like the matchup against The Brewers. Let’s start off with his strike out rate against this team specifically where Gerrit has a 36.3% rate against 113 PA. Milwaukee only has a couple of batters who make hard contct 40% or more along with a good chunk of strike outs through out the lineup. We could be in for a pitching showdown here in the Bronx.
Corbin Burnes
We go right over to the other side of Cole for Burnes. Corbin hasn’t seen a ton of The Yankees but he is projecting well. Coming from a NYY fan, they have been super inconsistent and underwhelming. Outside of a couple of bats, Burnes should be able to find some strike outs. This young manhas also been enjoying a great year sporting a 25% strike out rate, hard contact only 33.7% and an xwOBA of .287. Corbin rocks a 5 pitch mix that he uses well with a 29% whiff rate as well.
Building Blocks
Matt Olson
Not going to overthink this one. Olson is i a fantastic spot today against Ortiz and The Pirates in Atlanta. We are talking about aa guy with ahard contact rate just south of 60% who has been hitting the ball very well this year. Luis Ortiz throws a 4 pitch mix which includes a 4 seamer, sinker, slider and a changeup. All of these pitches are ones Matt has found success with this year. Totaling 37 homeruns against so said pitches. Weather should be humid and in the mid 80’s for this one (benefiting hitters). I don’t think it’s out of the possibility to see a double dong performance either!
My favorite stack for today is going to be The Rangers against Medina! Other teams to stack that I am interested in are The Orioles and The Braves!
Spike’s Fun Fact of the Day
The first president to throw a ceremonial pitch was William Howard Taft in 1910!
