Welcome in to Spike’s Building Blocks for DraftKings & FanDuel! This is a free article written daily to identify my top-overall DFS plays for cash/gpp games and small-field contests on both DraftKings and FanDuel. I truly appreciate everyone that reads and supports the content. If you’d like to support further you can click HERE to sign-up for a MLB Premium package. This gets you access to my Core Plays daily — allowing you to tail my builds, access the premium Discord channels and view our DFS Projections Portal. This Portal also gives all of your cash and gpp plays as well as our players to fade! We’ve been on fire already this MLB season, and there’s no better time to sign-up. With that being said, let’s dive into today’s slate…
Top Pitchers
Max Scherzer
Max has been on fire since being traded to The Rangers and gets a solid matchup today in the Milwaukee Brewers. Sporting a 27% strike out rate against them (over 192 PA), he should have a fairly easy time with them. The Brewers don’t have a ton of power hitting and have looked really inconsistent at times this year. Scherzer has 10+ strikeout upside anytime he is on the mound and should go for 7 innings if all goes to plan. Max looks like a gem today and should be rostered in all formats!
Hunter Greene
This might be more of a GPP play but it looks great regardless. Greene is finally back after a 60 day trip from the injured list. The biggest concern here is how long his leash is. In his last rehab outing he threw 83 pitches while striking out 9 batters with 1 earned run. Personally don’t think the leash is too tight and he could throw 90-100 pitches. Greene has had some success against Toronto in the past as he sports a 30.4% strikeout rate against this current team. Hunter is mid tier in the pricing aspect at 9k on DraftKings which is around what he should be but there aren’t many great options above him besides Max and mayber Hunter Brown. I prefer to go with Greene as there is slightly more value but just be cautious as he does tend to give up a chunk of hard contact from time to time.
Building Blocks
Rafael Devers
Boston has been rolling along lately as they had 5 or more runs in their last 8 games. Devers has been a big contributor to this success. Today he gets a matchup against Clarke Schmidt and the New York Yankees. Schmidt has a 4 pitch mix but his top 3 are a Cutter, Curveball and the Sinker. All of these pitches are ones Devers loves as he has a BA over .293 for all three pitches and an wOBa of .365 or higher as well. Boston in general are in a great spot but Devers in particular should have a big game. As of right now, we are projecting him to be under 5% owned!!
My favorite stack for today is going to be The Red Sox against Schmidt! Other teams to stack that I am interested in are The Rangers and The Cubs!
Spike’s Fun Fact of the Day
In 1965, The A’s signed 59 yeard old Satchel Paige as a gimmick to generate fan interest. Nobody told Satchel about this plan however, he then proceeds to shutout the Red Sox’s for 3 innings!
