Welcome to our MLB DFS Building Blocks, DraftKings and FanDuel picks for 7/3/22! In this article, I’ll break down by top overall plays for today’s main slate. We have already found a lot of success to start the year off and there is plenty more to come! A big KARMA takedown is imminent and only a matter of time. I will be providing Core Plays for every main slate (and day baseball) this season — you can gain access to that as well as our premium discord here. You can also try out the Core Plays package with a $5 day pass. Let’s get to the plays…
Pitcher
We have a clear SP1 today and that is Brandon Woodruff. He gets an elite matchup against the Pirates and he currently owns a 43% strike out rate against their lineup. They are arguably one of the worst offenses in baseball right now. 85% of their team has a strike out rate north of 23%. Regardless of cash or GPP he should be locked and loaded as one of your pitchers and for Fanduel is an easy first overall option. For our second pitcher things get interesting! There are a couple of solid options to choose from. Framber Valdez is getting a ton of ownership looking at projections. Nearly 50% which is warranted given the matchup against the Angels. They are in a big slump and can’t manage to get themselves out of it. He is a fine option but I am looking at Carlos Carrasco for the Mets. His ownership is less than half of Valdez’s and his upside is nearly the same. Texas has spurts of offense but there are plenty of days where the well is dry. He owns a 42% strikeout rate against them with an xwOBA of .211 here. I think he could match Frambez’s outcome and maybe even surpass it.
Building Blocks
Randy Arozarena
Tampa Bay is going overlooked again today and they’re in just as good of a spot as the preivous day. Randy gets a date with Ross Stripling and Toronto. Rogers Centre is actually in the top 10 for hitter friendly ballparks and we all know Arozarena comes with plenty of power. Stripling throws a lot of fastball’s and slider’s. Which happy to be the top two pitches that Randy hits extremely well with wOBA’s over .300 for both pitches he becomes an easy play for me. He is hitting towards the bottom of the order which should keep his ownership lower but nonetheless a great play!
Joey Wendle
The Marlins in general look good today and ownership shows that I am not alone with this thought. Wendle hasn’t seen a ton of action this season with lingering injuries. That being said, he is healthy now and batting second in this lineup. Eric Fedde is a pitcher we like attacking as his number are just not good. With a strikeout rate of only 18% and hard contact 43% of the time it makes a lot of sense. Wendle comes with plenty of power and has upside to double dong. He hits breaking pitches surprisingly well with an xwOBA of .304 which is what Fedde likes to throw. I expect him to pick up some ownership but nothing too crazy here.
