We’ve been on fire already this MLB season, and there’s no better time to sign-up. With that being said, let’s dive into today’s slate…
Top Pitchers
Logan Gilbert
Gilbert gets a date with the Detroit Tigers in Detroit. Now, this is a semi matchup based play but Logan has also been having a good year as well. Gilbert doesn’t give up a ton of hard contact (37%) and has been able to strike guys out (31.5%) along with only walking guys 5% of the time. Detroit also ranks in the bottom 5 for strikeouts per game (9.21) which should bode well for the young righty. We just saw Miller tear them up yesterday in 7 innings. Now, Miller dind’t get the strikeouts but Gilbert is a tier above him in that department so I don’t think we need to worry about that. I beleive Gilbert is a very strong option in cash or GPP contests and should have a very strong outing against these Tigers.
Mitch Keller
Call me crazy but I am fading Max today. He is playing through an injury and hasn’t looked right all year. It is quite the opposite for Mitch Keller though. Keller has been putting up great numbers including a 28% strikeout rate along with hard contact only 27% of the time. Not to mention a 7% walk rate, its very easy to see why we should target him. Baltimore has been an up and down team this year but I am trusting the hot hand here. The O’s have a handufl of guys who know how to hit the ball hard but other than that, they rely on getting hits. Keller has held 6 of the 8 teams he has faced to 2 or less earned runs.
Building Blocks
Christian Yelich
It is looking like the Coors game is going to get rained out which is more than fine with me! The Brewers in general look fantastic all around but Yelich in particular looks extra juicy. Yelich has been heating up over the last week with 2 homeruns, 8 RBI’s and 8 hits. Yelich gets a solid matchup against Lyles and the Royals. Lyles relies hevaily on his fastball which is just the kind of pitch Christian loves. In fact, all 6 of his homeruns this year have come off of a fastball type pitch and he has an xwOBA of .457 on it as well! Yeich is a must in all formats for me and it won’t surprise me to see him around 20% owned or more with the weather at Coors.
My favorite GPP stack for today is going to be The Brewers against Lyles. Other teams to stack that I am interested in are Dodgers and Miami.
