MLB DFS 4/3/19 – Bobby’s Batter Up

MLB BATTER UP April 3rd, 2019

Let’s GOOOO!! MLB SZN is upon us and you know us OG’s at DFS Karma have been dominating this part of the industry for years and this season will just be more of the same.  In this article I’ll be keeping a similair approach to how I built my article last season with my stacks, players I’m targeting from those stacks (and why), low-owned home run calls per position, and highest upside plays per position.  As always, keep in touch with me through Discord and Twitter (@DF_Advantage) to suggest things you’d like me to add or take away from this article.

Top Stacks – One of the most important concepts to understand in DFS MLB.  Watch our daily YouTube live podcast for more information on this understanding/mindset.  Keep in mind it is ok to stack 4 guys or 3 from the same team.  This mathematically increases your chances of “cashing” in tournaments.  It isn’t as necessary to stack in cash games (double ups/heads up).  Below is our rankings starting from the best at number 1.
Not only will I be identifying two teams I believe you should target in GPPs, but I will also discuss in the analysis which specific players I want exposure from these two teams AND why.

  • Dodgers Naturally, west coast games seem to get lower ownership in DFS and I think we may see that a bit with this Giants/Dodgers came tonight which carries a fairly low total on this slate.  I’m projecting the over for the implied run total from the Dodgers side and I really believe this sets up a great leverage spot as a ton of people in MLB DFS weigh Vegas too heavily.  Outside of football, on a daily MLB slate you’re going to see a ton of variance and while playing players from low total games consistently year round won’t be a profitable strategy (unless you’re binking GPPs on specific days these low-totals go off), it can be a profitable strategy on a slate like this one where we will see fairly low ownership due to only 5 games.  Holland doesn’t give up a ton of HR’s but his BB% is what is going to get him into trouble tonight.  This entire team projects for over a .300 wOBA in tonight’s game so you really can’t go wrong stacking anyone here.  I’ll have a mix of players from this lineup to get max exposure tonight on a game I believe will win the slate.-
      • Best “One-Off” – Justin Turner
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – Enrique Hernandez
  • Braves I’m giving the Braves the edge over the Astros in what will be two of the highest owned teams on the slate.  While the Red Sox do have some heavy hitters in Martinez and Betts, Martinez is likely the only guy I think worth paying that price on as he grades much better than Betts in this matchup and is cheaper.  The Braves have multiple players who project for higher wOBA’s than Mookie Betts in this spot and all three are considerably cheaper.  With Freddie Freeman, Josh Donaldson, and Ronald Acuna all projecting for wOBAs over .350, for reasonable price points on Draftkings it will be hard not to have a ton of exposure to these players.  Jon Lester is not good and no one projects him returning to 2015/2016 form at 35 years old.  He’s likely going to do better than last season but a matchup against a team that can smash lefties is likely going to give him difficulty tonight in a hitters ballpark. I’m going to have a ton of exposure to those three Braves but if you’re looking for a 4th/5th to this stack, Ozzie Albies and Tyler Flowers are the next two guys I’d be considering. –
      • Best “one-Off” – Freddie Freeman
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – Ronald Acuna
