Bobby’s MLB Batter Up (4/5/19)

MLB BATTER UP April 3rd, 2019

Let’s GOOOO!! MLB SZN is upon us and you know us OG’s at DFS Karma have been dominating this part of the industry for years and this season will just be more of the same.  In this article I’ll be keeping a similair approach to how I built my article last season with my stacks, players I’m targeting from those stacks (and why), low-owned home run calls per position, and highest upside plays per position.  As always, keep in touch with me through Discord and Twitter (@DF_Advantage) to suggest things you’d like me to add or take away from this article.

Top Stacks – One of the most important concepts to understand in DFS MLB.  Watch our daily YouTube live podcast for more information on this understanding/mindset.  Keep in mind it is ok to stack 4 guys or 3 from the same team.  This mathematically increases your chances of “cashing” in tournaments.  It isn’t as necessary to stack in cash games (double ups/heads up).  Below is our rankings starting from the best at number 1.
Not only will I be identifying two teams I believe you should target in GPPs, but I will also discuss in the analysis which specific players I want exposure from these two teams AND why.

  • Astros The Astros are the highest implied total on the slate but only by fractions of a point and are not separated from the rest of the field in a way that will impact ownership too much.  Obviously they will not be the lower owned options of the day considering the talent level of this lineup but I do think they are being a bit undervalued by Vegas and in turn the DFS community.  Frankie Montas grades out as the WORST pitcher on this slate in this matchup and is a pitcher who rarely strikes anyone out as we see by his 3 projected K’s in five innings tonight. While you’ll need to pay down a bit at pitcher to afford these guys it will be worth it.  Alex Bregman (proj. .380 wOBA), George Springer (.365 wOBA), Jose Altuve (.370 wOBA), Michael Brantley (..365 wOBA), and Carlos Correa (.360) are all WAY too cheap in this matchup.  Alex Bregman may be the top play of the entire slate.
      • Best “One-Off” – Alex Bregman
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – George Springer
  • Rangers If you’ve been following along with me this season you see that I’m very high on the Rangers early on and we’ve seen some huge games out of a consistently underrated potent offense.  Joey Gallo broke out of his home-run slump last night hitting a three-run jack and we should be in store for more of the same against Felix Pena, who turns players into HR machines where most advanced projections have him averaging 1.5 HR/9 on the season this year and he likely will fall somewhere close to or even above that number.  A team filled with power hitters like the Rangers is one Pena should struggle with and Vegas seems to have undervalued the Rangers again tonight where I’m seeing around a 4.1/4.2 implied run total.  Gallo’s price is up but his upside is elite.  His projected ISO in this matchup is over .275 which is just insane. The other three guys who are projecting for ISO’s over .200 in this matchup include Rougned Odor, Nomar Mazara, and Asdrubal Cabrera.  All guys I will be getting exposure to tonight and looking for long-balls.  On the other side of this game, if you have the salary for Mike Trout, play him.  Still way too cheap. –
      • Best “one-Off” – Shin-Soo Choo
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – Joey Gallo
