MLB BATTER UP April 25th, 2019
Only a 5-game slate today so I’m going to keep my article short and prioritize my “Leverage” stack which will always be the key to binking a GPP on these short slates.
In this article I’ll be keeping a similar approach to how I built my article last season with my stacks, players I’m targeting from those stacks (and why), low-owned home run calls per position, and highest upside plays per position. As always, keep in touch with me through Discord and Twitter (@DF_Advantage) to suggest things you’d like me to add or take away from this article.
Top Stacks
One of the most important concepts to understand in DFS MLB. Watch our daily YouTube live podcast for more information on this understanding/mindset. Keep in mind it is ok to stack 4 guys or 3 from the same team. This mathematically increases your chances of “cashing” in tournaments. It isn’t as necessary to stack in cash games (double ups/heads up). Below is our rankings starting from the best at number 1.
Not only will I be identifying two teams I believe you should target in GPPs, but I will also discuss in the analysis which specific players I want exposure from these two teams AND why.
Bobby’s #1 Leverage Stack of the Slate: Astros- We all know that Trevor Bauer has gotten increasingly better over the course of his career but is still prone to the occasional collapse, especially against elite bats. This season so far his walk rate is up over the last couple years which is comparable to a season where his FIP was over 4. Now by no means do I think Bauer is going to have a bad season, he’s one of the best pitchers in the MLB for a reason. However, he will struggle to strikeout this Astros lineup tonight that has become extremely more patient in recent years. If his early season walk issues continue to unfold we could be looking at a game that will get out of hand quick with the type of talent the Astros have in this lineup. The 1-5 in this order is going to be my highest owned combinations in single entry, 3-max, and multi-enter GPPs tonight but I will be sprinkling in Josh Reddick who is pretty underpriced for his talent and lineup positioning with plenty of RBI opportunities ahead, even while batting in the 7th spot.

- Best “One-Off” – George Spinger – sizable advanced analytics advantage over teammates + leading off
- Best Bet for a Homerun – Carlos Correa (if not Springer)
