Bobby’s MLB Batter Up (4/1/19)

MLB BATTER UP April 1st, 2019

Let’s GOOOO!! MLB SZN is upon us and you know us OG’s at DFS Karma have been dominating this part of the industry for years and this season will just be more of the same.  In this article I’ll be keeping a similair approach to how I built my article last season with my stacks, players I’m targeting from those stacks (and why), low-owned home run calls per position, and highest upside plays per position.  As always, keep in touch with me through Discord and Twitter (@DF_Advantage) to suggest things you’d like me to add or take away from this article.

Top Stacks – One of the most important concepts to understand in DFS MLB.  Watch our daily YouTube live podcast for more information on this understanding/mindset.  Keep in mind it is ok to stack 4 guys or 3 from the same team.  This mathematically increases your chances of “cashing” in tournaments.  It isn’t as necessary to stack in cash games (double ups/heads up).  Below is our rankings starting from the best at number 1.
Not only will I be identifying two teams I believe you should target in GPPs, but I will also discuss in the analysis which specific players I want exposure from these two teams AND why.

  • Rangers – This is a play that might catch a few people by surprise where I know some were looking to get Peacock exposure.  However, Peakcock actually grades fairly poorly on this slate and while he is a solid K% pitcher, his homerun rate and more importantly BB% is going to hurt him tonight.  Vegas has the total on this game at 9.5 but I believe the Astros are being overvalued compared to the Rangers who are undervalued giving us an opportunity to leverage this in GPPs where it seems like half of DFS players soley rely on what Vegas spits out rather their own just as sophisticated models.  A five-man stack is extremely viable in this spot with just five players sticking out to me.  You can obviously stack these five guys whichever way you want (1-of, 3, 4,, or 5 man stack) and I’m going to list them in order of projected wOBA in this game.  The top option is going to be the leadoff man Shin-Soo Choo with a wOBA around the .350.360 range in this game.  Choo is followed by Nomar Mazara who edges out Gallo, as one of the most underrated players on this Rangers team.  Gallo is up next and we love to target him in GPPs because of his HR tendencies, featuring an insane .259 ISO here. These three are my top targets but to compliment this stack I do love adding in Rougned Odo and Asdrubal Cabrera who has been scorching hot. –
      • Best “One-Off” – Shin-Soo Choo
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – Joey Gallo
  • Rockies Something that is great about stacking the Rockies is that you can easily identify where their production comes from as they are in the top half of the league in standard deviation of run support from their 1-5 hitters meaning that a ton of their runs come from the same players rather than equally distributed across the 5.  While this is generally a bad thing for a 5-man stack, it works perfectly today where I want 2-3 of these guys max in the same lineup.  This is another game I think Vegas is vastly undervaluing where the Rockies are implied for under 4 runs but the projections I have looked at have this team in the 4.4-4.6 range, obviously a pretty significant difference in terms of %.  The two guys I am LOCKING into my lineups are Nolan Arenado and Trevory Story.  I do like Dahl but he’s a bit overpriced, along with Blackmon.  If you’re looking for a thrid option from this team, Chris Ianetta grades out as the fourth best hitter in this game for the Rockies but is priced as the cheapest in the starting lineup.
      • Best “one-Off” – Nolan Arenado
      • Best Bet for a Homerun – Trevor Story

Make sure to stay up to date with my core plays which can be utilized for cash games and single entry GPPs by DMing me on twitter and signing up for our core plays at www.dfskarma.com/shop.  I will always be in discord, as usual, answering questions and giving additional insight to our subscribers and community on the day’s slate.
