Paul Goldschmidt makes an interesting option tonight. He’s hitting .300 with a .475 slugging percentage and an .839 OPS over his last 10 games. Goldschmidt also owns 40% hard hit and 59% fly ball rates with a 93 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. With that being said, he has scored 7+ fantasy points in only one of his last five games. Tonight, Goldschmidt gets a terrible matchup against Max Scherzer, who is an elite option against right-handed batters. His biggest flaw is giving up the long ball, and I’m not willing to bet strictly on a home run here for Goldschmidt.
Nicholas Castellanos has caught fire recently, as he’s hitting .310 with a .571 slugging percentage and a .919 OPS over his last 10 games. He owns seven extra-base hits (two home runs) and six RBIs over that span. He has also posted 40% hard hit and 59% fly ball rates with a 93 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Castellanos gets a matchup against Aaron Nola, who is due for regression as the season continues. The former has also struggled against right-handed pitching at times, posting -0.056 wOBA differential against righties. He’s hitting second in the lineup, but I’m siding with the pitcher over the hitter in this situation.
