I played the under on Miguel Cabrera yesterday, and I’ll do the same today. Yesterday, he walked twice, but failed to hit the over because the Detroit Tigers simply have no firepower in their offense. To find the over in this game, Cabrera will need a multi-hit game, an extra-base hit, or an RBI or run (assuming he reached on a single). Those are far from a given with the offense he’s in. They have little to no firepower, meaning he won’t see many RBI opportunities, and a run will be difficult to come by. He’s also hitting only .118 on the season without any extra-base hits. Now he gets a tough matchup against Masahiro Tanaka, who could always pitch around Cabrera if he feels the need. It’s difficult to hit overs when you’re playing in one of the worst offenses in the MLB, and I’ll likely attack Cabrera’s under for the majority of the season.
I never thought I’d be comfortable playing under 5.5 fantasy points on Bryce Harper, but the MLB season is crazy. I’m simply going with the narrative here. He’s returning to his former team, who he spurned for a division rival. There will be no love lost in the stadium, and Harper will be feeling the full pressure from Washington’s fans. On the mound will be Max Scherzer, who is one of the best pitchers in the MLB. Harper isn’t an overly consistent hitter, but he comes with tremendous upside. While Scherzer has struggled with home runs at home throughout his career, Harper will see a major downgrade in ballpark stadium from his first series. Essentially, I’m betting on an elite pitcher holding down a former teammate, who will feel tremendous amounts of pressure from his former fans.
