Total Base Race – Minnesota Twins/Boston Red Sox
The Minnesota Twins get a great matchup against Rick Porcello, who enters this game with a 5.36 xFIP and a 5.05 SIERA through 27 starts. He has been at his worst against left-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .288 average with a .495 slugging percentage and a .350 wOBA. He has also given up a .267/.469/.324 line to right-handed batters in 2019. Max Kepler has found plenty of success recently, posting a .289 average with a .632 slugging percentage and a 1.004 OPS over his last 10 games. He owns seven extra-base hits (three home runs) over that span, as well. Kepler boasts 41% hard hit and 61% fly ball rates with an 88 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. He also possesses a 0.051 ISO differential against right-handed pitching. Nelson Cruz has found more success against left-handed pitching, but his numbers against righties are nothing to scoff at this season. He has caught fire over his last 10 games, as he owns a .372 average with a .465 slugging percentage and a .869 OPS over that span. Surprisingly, he only owns two extra-base hits (one home run) in those contests. Cruz enters this game with 40% hard hit and fly ball rates to go along with a 93 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days, as well. Randy Dobnak will be taking the mound for Minnesota tonight. He has posted a 2.47 xFIP and a 2.82 SIERA this season, but he has only thrown in 8.0 total innings. In limited innings, he has given up a .471 average with a .529 slugging percentage and a .429 wOBA to right-handed batters. Mookie Betts has been playing well recently, as he’s hitting for a .311 average with a .533 slugging percentage and a .873 OPS over his last 10 games. In those contests, he possesses six extra-base hits (two home runs). He boasts 57% hard hit, 36% fly ball, and 31% line drive rates to go along with a 98 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days, as well. Betts has been at his best against right-handed pitching, as he brings 0.021 wOBA and 0.053 ISO differentials against righties into this game. There are a few unknowns surrounding Dobnak, but I expect Boston to find some success in this game.
