Total Base Race – Baltimore Orioles/Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox get an elite matchup against Ty Blach, who has only thrown in three games this season. In those games, he has posted a 7.37 xFIP and a 6.29 SIERA. He has also struggled mightily against right-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .412 average with a .647 slugging percentage and a .467 wOBA. Blach has given up a .389/667/470 line to his opponents away from home, as well. Most importantly, Blach isn’t a pitcher that will be able to go deep into this game, meaning Boston will see plenty of time against the Baltimore Orioles bullpen. Mookie Betts has been playing well recently, as he owns a .282 average with a .641 slugging percentage and a 1.019 OPS over his last 10 games. He boasts seven extra-base hits (two home runs) in those games, as well. Betts also enters this game with 41% hard hit and 55% fly ball rates to go along with a 94 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. He has been a better option against right-handed pitching, but is numbers against lefties are nothing to scoff at. J.D. Martinez has dominated left-handed pitcher in 2019, as he brings 0.18 wOBA and 0.256 ISO differentials against lefties into this game. He has also caught fire recently, posting a .385 average with a .718 slugging percentage and a 1.162 OPS over his last 10 games. Over that span, he has recorded seven extra-base hits (three home runs). Martinez possesses 54% hard hit and 30% fly ball rates to go along with a 92 MPH exit velocity, as well. Nathan Eovaldi will be taking the mound for Boston tonight. He has struggled through 15 games (4 starts) in 2019, posting a 4.75 xFIP and a 4.60 SIERA. He has also struggled against right-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .304/.468/.363 line this season. Eovaldi has also given up a .315/.556/.406 line to his opponents in Boston in 2019. Trey Mancini has been playing well recently, posting a .265 average with a .588 slugging percentage and a 1.007 OPS over his last 10 games. He owns five extra-base hits (three home runs) in those games, as well. Surprisingly, Mancini only possesses 29% hard hit and 32% fly ball rates with an 88 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days, but this is a matchup he can take advantage of.
