Total Base Race – Los Angeles Angels/Texas Rangers
The Los Angeles Angels get a matchup against Ariel Jurado, who enters this game with a 4.74 xFIP and a 4.74 SIERA through 17 games (8 starts). He has quietly looked solid with 31.2% fly ball and 12.1% HR/FB rates in 2019. With that being said, Jurado has given up a 40.7% hard hit rate with a 19% soft hit rate this season. He has been worse against right-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .297 average with a .492 slugging percentage and a .342 wOBA. He has given up a .252/.411/.315 line to left-handed batters, as well. Tommy La Stella is expected to miss this game, which would slide David Fletcher into the lead off slot. He has been struggling quite a bit recently, but he owns a .357 average with a .476 slugging percentage and a .902 OPS through 11 games against the Texas Rangers this season. He owns five extra-base hits in those games, as well. If Fletcher isn’t leading off, he can be removed from this play, as his recent numbers aren’t overly impressive. Mike Trout is another player that hasn’t been playing well recently, posting a .243 average without any extra-base hits over his last 10 games. With that being said, Trout could be in line for a breakout, as he owns 39% hard hit and 47% fly ball rates with a 94 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. He also enters this game with 0.08 wOBA and 0.128 ISO differentials against right-handed pitching. Shohei Ohtani has caught fire recently, posting a .462 average with a .885 slugging percentage and a 1.349 OPS over his last 10 games. Over that span, he owns five extra-base hits (three home runs). He boasts a 53% hard hit rate to go along with a 97 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Ohtani also brings 0.06 wOBA and 0.148 ISO differentials against right-handed pitching into this game. This trio is expected to hit first through third in the Los Angeles offense, and they should see plenty of opportunities to find success in this game.
