Total Base Race – Los Angeles Dodgers/Washington Nationals
The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to feature one of the highest upside offenses in the MLB on a nightly basis. They get a matchup against Anibal Sanchez, who is due for regression, as his ERA (3.80) sits well above his xFIP (5.20) and SIERA (5.13). He has given up a 39.5% fly ball rate in 2019, although he has held his opponents to a 12.2% HR/FB rate this season. He also brings 31.1% hard hit and 19.6% soft hit rates into this game. Sanchez has struggled against left-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .259 average with a .494 slugging percentage and a .342 wOBA this season. Most importantly, Sanchez owns 32% fly ball and 23.1% HR/FB rates to left-handed batters, suggesting he’ll struggle with the trio of powerful lefties in this play. Joc Pederson has posted a .265 average with a .559 slugging percentage and .901 OPS over his last 10 games. He owns four extra-base hits (three home runs) over that span, as well. He boasts 56% hard hit and 52% fly ball rates to go along with a 95 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Pederson also brings 0.123 wOBA and 0.196 ISO differentials against right-handed pitching into this game. Cody Bellinger has found elite success against righties, as well, recording 0.082 wOBA and 0.113 ISO differentials against them. He’s also hitting .278 with a .639 slugging percentage and a 1.052 OPS over his last 10 games. He has posted five extra-base hits (four home runs) over that span. In those games, he possesses 43% hard hit and fly ball rates to go along with a 93 MPH exit velocity, as well. Max Muncy is the final piece of the puzzle, and he’s hitting for a .278 average with a .639 slugging percentage and a 1.052 OPS over his last 10 games. He has recorded five extra-base hits (four home runs) in those games, as well. Muncy also enters this game with 38% hard hit and fly ball rates to go along with a 92 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. He brings 0.064 wOBA and 0.069 ISO differentials against right-handed pitching into this game. This is somewhat of an ideal matchup for this trio, and they should find tremendous success tonight.
