Total Base Race – Kansas City Royals/Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves get an elite matchup against Danny Duffy tonight. He has struggled this season with a 5.19 xFIP and a 5.06 SIERA. He has struggled with 40% fly ball and 13% HR/FB rates through 15 starts. He has also given up a 38.9% hard hit rate, while recording a 14.7% soft hit rate in 2019. Duffy has struggled most against left-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .284 average with a .494 slugging percentage and a .377 wOBA this season. He has also given up a .259/.444/.322 line to right-handed batters this season. Furthermore, Duffy has allowed his opponents to post a .270/.443/.339 line on the road in 2019. Ronald Acuna Jr. has found plenty of success recently, as he’s hitting .318 with a .545 slugging percentage and a .933 OPS over his last 10 games. He boasts four extra-base hits (three home runs) over that span, as well. Surprisingly, Acuna only owns 34% hard hit and 37% fly ball rates with a 91 MPH exit velocity in those games. He has also been elite against left-handed pitching, bring 0.073 wOBA and 0.101 ISO differentials against lefties into this game. Freddie Freeman has cooled down a bit recently, as he’s only hitting .231 with a .410 slugging percentage and a .728 OPS over his last 10 games. He does own three extra-base hits (two home runs) in those contests. Over that span, he has also posted 36% hard hit and 40% fly ball rates to go along with a 93 MPH exit velocity. Freeman has been better against right-handed pitching, but he should find plenty of success in this particular matchup. Josh Donaldson is the final part of this play, and he has looked elite recently. Over his last 10 games, he’s hitting .313 with a .781 slugging percentage and a 1.270 OPS. He has recorded five home runs over that span, as well. Donaldson brings 60% hard hit and 48% fly ball rates with a 101 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days into this game, as well. He’s slightly more powerful against left-handed pitching, as he enters this game with a 0.005 ISO differential against lefties. Most importantly, this game will be played in Atlanta, where this trio has found tremendous success.
