The Cleveland Indians get an elite matchup against Ryan Carpenter, who has struggled through eight starts this season. Overall, he boasts a 5.82 xFIP and a 5.50 SIERA in those starts. He has also given up 38.8% fly ball and 20.4% HR/FB rates in 2019. Carpenter has allowed his opponents to post a 44.3% hard hit rate to go along with a 14.3% soft hit rate. Surprisingly, he has been worse against left-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .359 average with a .692 slugging percentage and a .437 wOBA. He has also given up a .323/.581/.397 line to right-handed batters. Francisco Lindor hasn’t been playing at that high of a level recently, but he still owns a .267 average with a .444 slugging percentage and a .757 OPS over his last 10 games. He boasts four extra-base hits (two home runs) in those games. Surprisingly, he only owns 25% hard hit and 38% fly ball rates with a 90 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Lindor does possess a 0.023 wOBA differential against left-handed pitching. Carlos Santana has looked outstanding over his last 10 games, posting a .308 average with a .590 slugging percentage and a 1.015 OPS in those games. He has recorded five extra-base hits (three home runs) in those contests, as well. Santana enters this game with 44% hard hit and 37% fly ball rates to go along with a 91 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. He also rings a 0.023 wOBA against left-handed pitching into this game. Jose Ramirez has been better against right-handed pitching, but he still owns 45% hard hit and 33% fly ball rates with a 91 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. He also boasts a .293 average with a .585 slugging percentage and a .904 OPS over his last 10 games. In those games, he has recorded six extra-base hits (three home runs) in those games. This game is less about the Cleveland Indians and more about how bad Carpenter is. They should find plenty of success as a team, and these are three of their best hitters, who will see a multitude of opportunities in this matchup.
