Total Base Race – Toronto Blue Jays/New York Yankees
The New York Yankees get an elite matchup against Aaron Sanchez tonight. He has struggled through 19 starts with a 5.33 xFIP and a 5.57 SIERA. He has surprisingly help his opponents to a 28.3% fly ball rate, although he has given up a 17.1% HR/FB rate. Sanchez has also allowed a 37.6% hard hit rate to go along with a 17.9% soft hit rate. He has struggled against everyone in 2019, as well. Sanchez has given up a .300 average with a .453 slugging percentage and a .377 wOBA to right-handed batters, while lefties have posted a .278/.448/.347 line this season. Furthermore, he has given up a .304/.478/.373 line on the road in 2019. DJ LeMahieu has been one of the hottest hitters in the MLB for quite some time, and he’s hitting .426 with a .702 slugging percentage and a 1.162 OPS over his last 10 games. He also owns seven extra-base hits (two home runs) in those games. LeMahieu has been better against left-handed pitching, but he is leading off, and makes an elite option tonight. Aaron Judge was also playing well prior to the All Star Break, as he’s hitting .314 with a .686 slugging percentage and a 1.128 OPS over his last 10 games. He boasts five extra-base hits (four home runs) in those contests. Judge also enters this game with 50% hard hit and 37% fly ball rates to go along with a 95 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Similarly to LeMahieu, he has been better against left-handed pitching, but he should still find plenty of success against a weak right-handed pitching. Aaron Hicks has been at his best against right-handed pitching, posting 0.081 wOBA and 0.102 ISO differentials against righties. He has also caught fire recently, posting a .324 average with a .676 slugging percentage and a 1.076 OPS over his last 10 games. In those games, he also owns seven extra-base hits (three home runs). Hicks has recorded 45% hard hit and 50% fly ball rates to go along with a 94 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Each of these three players should be hitting near the top of the Yankees lineup, and they are an offense that should find plenty of success tonight.
