Total Base Race – New York Mets/Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies get a matchup against Jason Vargas, who has surprisingly thrown well this season. He boasts a 3-3 record with a 3.75 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP through 13 games (12 starts). With that being said, he owns a 5.30 xFIP and a 5.27 SIERA this season. He has also struggled with a 40.2% fly ball rate, although he has held his opponents to a 9.7% HR/FB rate. Vargas has also given up a 39.1% hard hit rate to go along with a 17.4% soft hit rate. He has struggled more against right-handed batters, allowing them to hit for a .244 average with a .405 slugging percentage and a .314 wOBA. He has also allowed his opponents to post a .268/.447/.335 line on the road this season. Scott Kingery has recently moved into the lead off spot for the Phillies, and he has caught fire. Over his last 10 games, he boasts a .333 average with a .564 slugging percentage and a .959 OPS. He also owns five extra-base hits (two home runs) in those contests. Furthermore, Kinger has posted 55% hard hit and 50% fly ball rates with a 95 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. He enters this game with 0.04 wOBA and 0.022 ISO differentials against left-handed pitching, as well. Rhys Hoskins is a right-handed batter, who features reverse splits, but has still found plenty of success against lefties this season. He has been playing well over the last 15 days, recording 46% hard hit and 66% fly ball rates with a 95 MPH exit velocity over that span. He also owns a .242 average with a .606 slugging percentage and a 1.025 OPS over his last 10 games. Hoskins has posted six extra-base hits (three home runs) in those games, as well. Furthermore, he has found plenty of success in Philadelphia this season, recording a .299/.635/1.068 line through 41 home games. Bryce Harper is the only left-handed batter in this game, but he has been a reverse splits hitter this season. He currently owns 0.008 wOBA and 0.05 ISO differentials against left-handed pitching. He has also looked decent recently, posting a .242 average with a .394 slugging percentage and a .826 OPS over his last 10 games. He has recorded three extra-base hits (one home run) in those games. Harper also enters this game with 40% hard hit and 34% fly ball rates with a 95 MPH exit velocity over the last 15 days. Similarly to the majority of the Phillies players, he has been better at home this season, and I expect this trio to find plenty of success in this matchup.
